What to do if only write by OBD possible?

Postby spacie » Thu Jun 20, 2019 6:27 pm

Hi guys,
what to do if i only can write ECU over OBD but not read it?

im not sure about this.... I know that i can read the ECU on bench to get map files.

But can i do it without reading the original ECU in any way? Can i just download the original file somewhere and flash it? Or do i have to modify something before flashing that downloaded original file to the car? (like VIN or IMMO codes?)
Or does it even depends on the car?

I did google a lot about it! But did not find a proper answer to this question?

Thanks in advances for answer!

Cant be answered.
To less specification. It depends on ecu something hw-sw-version!

Ok... Ill put an example...

VW Caddy 2015 2.0 TDI BMT 5MT with EDC17C64

Can i just download an original file from somewhere on the internet and flash it? Or has it to be modified specialy for this particular car? (Or maybe will Kess do it for me?)

Hi mate,
you're just cute, as I saw i don't know nothing about tuning but you intend to start with EDC17C64.
For sure, you can't write the file found on net, becuse car will not start and you will permanently lock ECU.
Cheap way is to open ECU and read full with KTAG.
KESS can't do the job.

Thanks for answering! ;-)

I know maybe it was a silly question... but all of us have to start.

So.... I know how kessv2 VR read work.... read ID ... send ID to server... auto download VR read file and ready.... but what to hell will the alien tech servers do to this file?
I mean... it's the same as downloading some original file from other database and maybe modify it... but what to modify?

(As I did see kess ID file just contains VIN which is car specific!)

Virtual read is not safe, many guys locked ECU with this procedure.
