EDC15C2 06 Saving a tuned map and leaving immo switched on

Postby Rhothgar » Mon Aug 24, 2020 5:44 pm

Hi

I have a duff ECU which has a 140bhp map on it. Long story short, it appears water has done to very slight damage to internals.

Pin 86 has completely corroded so I opened up case and soldered wire direct to internal pad of Pin 86 and chopped that straight into the look through a new hole with rubber grommet in ECU.

It worked for a little while>

I borrowed an ECU of a friend yesterday and the car started first time. Bearing in mind that this is on a Xantia 2.0Hdi 110 with Body CPH, it should not have started but it did.

I turned key off and car would not restart again.

So this is why I am here. Test ecu proves ecu is duff.

Thinking of buying a 2nd hand one cheap and looking for easiest option  for getting car back up and running preferably with immobiliser still working as I don't want to switch it off.

Been doing a lot of reading up. Probably too much and may have confused myself.

Would desoldering 29F400BT and immo chip and transferring them to another ECU work?

I have access to Kess, K-tag, carprog and maybe other kits through another friend.

I would like to retain tuning map and immobiliser function.

I've read virginising an EDC15C2 is not possible with the 1 plug connector. Is this true?

Thanks in advance.

Willing to learn a lot (as I am going to have to to get car running again...   )

Failng desolder and transfer. Could I just desolder, use EEPROM programmer to read old chip, write to 'new' chip in replacement ECU and transfer immo chip?

Also, in some threads I read pin 2 for boot mode or pin 24? Can't be both.

My current ECU is:-

Bosch EDC15C2 06 (Single Connector)
0 281 010 251
96 362 548 80
Build date of 001007

PSA reference 9636321680
Software reference 9636254880
Software version 0201
Diagnostic version 05

I will try and get info of the ECU today and post BIN file

buy same ecu and just solder chip to new ecu, or make immo off on new ecu

Easier way:

1. buy ecu with same HW/SW or HW
2. ori ecu + bootmode + obd + read eeprom/flash
3. write in new ecu

It works with ecu 1 plug and 3 plug.

Bootmode is pin 24.

Thanks guys for prompt responses.

ECU on order.

Tried reading EEPROM with MPPS.

File is only 512Kb. I tried full data and partial data. Both return identical files. I think this is flash file not EEPROM file?

It would be nice to extract the PIN from file but it keeps saying file size is wrong. I think file should be 1024kb?

Is EEPROM on this ECU 5P08C3 chip? Is this immo chip?

That file is flash. Eeprom is 1024 bytes.

It has 5p08c3 for immo, dtc registers and other.

Some MPPS can do eeprom, search Generic > Eeprom > try Generic EDC15Cx or ME7x or MED7x.

Thanks ceecee.

It's interesting to know the dtc registers are stored in here.

I think I read somewhere that any dtc's should be cleared from ecu prior to reading or they can get permanently written back to chip. Is this true?

I would have thought the memory is addressable and so codes cannot be permanently written.

Not sure the MPPS I have loaned is modern enough. It's version 12 and my friend has not paid for updates. He tried to set up ECU repair business many years ago. Spent £12000 on equipment and the guy that was doing it left the business. My friend was too busy to learn this skill. I think it takes a lot of focus to be able to repair ECU's!

Reading some other posts, it seems CH431 is good equipment to use for this chip. I have loaned CarProg too. Just got to learn how to use it...

Not neccessary to delete dtcs for cloning, if ori ecu was working ok don't worry. Of course some data in eep will be copied (dtcs, mileage, engine running time, max rpm and so).

There are many programs to do edc15c2 eep from bootmode+OBD, some free and other paid. Some with C167 ecu support EDC15x or ME7x is ok because read/write code is the same.

The replacement ECU arrived - same hardware 0281010251 06

Imagine my surprise then when I opened it to find 35P08 3 immo chip inside.

I could not read that with CH341A using 24 series EPPROM 25X08 so I ended up transferring chip from ori ecu to replacement.

Car starts fine.

What is best programmer that covers most chips and reasonably priced in your guys' eyes?

I still want to try and read chip.

Only datasheet I could find suggested chip is OK up to 5.5V. I read that these cheap CH341A need modifying to run at 3.3V but if chip is OK upto 5.5V then no need to modify I guess.
