DPF removal Alfa Romeo 147 1.9jtdm

Postby alexneter » Sat Apr 25, 2020 4:14 pm

Dear all,

I am new to this forum, so if I forgot to supply any important information, please don't be too hard at me :-)

I am trying to delete the DPF of my Alfa Romeo 147 1.9jtdm 8v 120bhp from 2007 (motorcode: 937.a.3000). The car has had many problems since i bought it. One of these problems was a clogged DPF unable to regenerate, so the DPF has been pysically removed (emptied). The problem that persists, is a motor warning at every start of the car, and a persistent engine light (P2453). The car, however, drives fine now.

I have been trying to learn how to delete the DPF from the ECU. I have bought an MPPS v16 clone along with the software. First of all, I could not find the exact ECU type matching my motorcode on the internet easliy. I used Wurth WOW! software to look up the ECU with my motorcode. It states: Bosch EDC16c8. Unfortunately, MPPS does not have this option for my specific car. The closest one is the "1.9 JTD 16V Bosch EDC16C8 K-Line". However, I have the JTDM, not the JTD and the 8v, not the 16v. I am able to ID the ECU just fine with this option selected. But I am kind of scared trying to read or write with this option selected.
I planned on removing the DPF using ECUSAFE.

Could anyone please guide me in the right direction?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

P.S: Please forgive me if this is not the right subforum for this question. I found this one to be mathcing the best.

937A3.000 uses Bosch EDC16C8 ECU.

Removing the DPF using ECUSAFE is bad idea.

Thank you very much for your quick reply! Would you think I could select the option for the JTD 16v with the same ECU? I also found in MPPS, a Fiat stilo "1.9 JTD Bosch EDC16C8 K-line". This one is the closest to my specific make and model. Is "closest" good enough, or is it impossible to use MPPS v16 with my specific car?

And thanks for your advice on not using ecusafe as well. Would you be able to suggest another tool I can use for this? I am a complete beginner to this.

It is the same ECU (hardware) in all those cars. You can read it also as Alfa 156, 166, Fiat, Lancia. It doesn't matter. The point is to be Bosch EDC16C8.

You can read it via OBD with MPPS, Kess, Galletto and all the other tools on the market that are able to read Bosch EDC16C8.
You can read it via BDM with Ktag, Galletto and all the other tools on the market that are able to read Bosch EDC16 in BDM mode.

My advice is not to use generic software that deletes DPF & EGR, but the choice is yours what will you do.

Before writing the new modified software make sure that the checksum is ok or that your flasher can correct it in writing.

I greatly appreciate all your help! I will be following your advice as not to use a generic program to delete the DPF.

Only thing left for me is to find a way for me to delete the DPF in the best possible way - as a complete noob.
Maybe if I upload the file here, someone would be willing to do it for me or guide me in the right direction?

Thanks again.

Well, I have finally managed to get a file off my ECU.

I could not get MPPS get past around 80%. It kept failing on read error. I tried every verhicle selection with every available ecu type looking similar to mine. After I got fed up with MPPS, I bought Kess. With Kess, fortunately, I managed to pull off the file.

However, Kess too did not seem to have my exact car model listed. Kess would not read it as EDC16C8. It told me to select family 55. I tried the Alfa 147 1.9 JTD 8V M-JET (120pk) (fam.55) (which look to be precisely my car), but with the EDC16C39 ECU.
The read performed fine and I got the file.

My next next two questions would be: is it safe to assume my ECU is not EDC16C8, but EDC16C39 - or at least: would it be safe to assume I can use this mode for eventually writing back the file using this mode?
Secondly: would anyone be willing to delete the DPF in the file?
I would not mind paying for your service.

Thanks in advance

1MB file = EDC16 C8

2MB file = EDC16 C39

Upload the file that you have read from your car.

This is the file. I almost forgot - the car has been tuned to stage 1 a little while ago by a tuner. I hope this should not make a difference.

Would anyone please have a chance to look at the file?

The car, meanwhile keeps trying to regenerate every 50 kilometers, resulting in rising oil level.

Any help would be very much appreciated!
