Alfa 156 1.8 Novitec Turbo with M1.5.5 tune stock NA maps

Postby Alfa156 » Wed May 02, 2018 3:56 pm

I have read a lot about the ME7.x ecu's on the several forums but I have only one challenge : I don't have a ME7.x ECU in my car but it's predecessor, the M1.5.5. And because only Fiat and some Opels used this ecu there is hardly to find anything about this ecu on the net. I have some questions I hope you guy would like to awnser. Almost nobody is into theese ecu's for tuning anymore.

It's all about an Alfa 156 1.8 Twinspark but with an Novitec Turbo kit. It has lowered compression, a Schwitzer S1 Turbo, FMIC, and bigger 335cc injectors. Should have about 200Hp/280Nm pretty nice for a NA 1.8 engine conversion. The conversion has one problem : Novitec converted it to to acient M2.10.4 ecu because back in 2001 Novitec couldn't work with the M1.5.5 and they could with the M2.10.4. They could a bit I should say, because the tune is crap. It's a bitch to get trough MOT emissions, ít's thirsty, idle is not great and there is always the feeling that it could do better. So I took on the challenge to get it better. I'm not chasing numbers, I want more driveability and learn from it all. Not liking the idea of fiddeling with chips and programmers I converted the car back to M1.5.5 again. It's completely stock right now, even the injectors. Novitec used 335cc injectors from a Fiat Coupe 20VT but those flooded he engine almost so converted back to stock injectors 176cc for the moment.

Last week I got hold on a real Damos file for this ecu. I tought I had it figured it out pretty good before I got the Damos but I had to start all over again because a lot of things were completely false. I think I got most of it now by comparing what I had and searching the forum and the internet. Up to now it has been a very educational experience ! But some Funktionsrahmen have codings that I can't get any search results on the forum and the internet so I'm stuck right now.

First the bigger injectors:

Now the enigine has stock injectors of 176cc but I would like to have the bigger ones because I understood that the 176cc ones will run out around 185Hp or so. But I can't figure out how to do the basic calibration. There is no KRKTE or something like that map in the Damos...
I found TEMIN, TVUB, KFLF, and QSTAT. I kind of understand the first 3 what they do, I understood not to touch KFLF, Altough it's is called lambda characteristic map/Lambdakennfeld in the Damos, but it's clearly a correction map. It has only corrections >1 below 800 rpm and above 2000 rpm (and than only the upper half of the load scale)
And than QSTAT, I learned from searching on the web that is has clearly something to do with injection but it's not a simple constant 1x1 but a 12x1 map?

Second : The ignition maps

I understand what theese maps are for :
KFZW and KFZWWT ignition at working temp and warmup at a certain Load
KFZWL Ignition idle region
KFZWV Ignition WOT
But how does the ecu decide what map to use ? That also applies to the Fuel maps. What decides to switch it between the idle, partial load and WOT?

Third :

What is the basic fuel map ? There is no map like LAMFA, but there is KFTLWB (16X16) : Map for tL-Calculation From Throttle angle. But that one doesn't make sense because the car is equipped with an MAF sensor that indicates Load I presume. My conclusion is that this map is only active when the MAF is disconnected.
So wich map does calculate/dictates the basic fuelling? The other maps I have (but are all corrections):
KFLFV : correction for WOT
KFLFL : correction for Idle area
KFPU and KFPUNW : Map HFM-pulsation correction with and without intake camshaft change. Some people said these were the Lamda maps, but they're not! I dicided to leave them unchanged.
KFDR : injection correction Reference pressure pressure regulator
Where do I start? Where do I make/change the base map for the fuelling?

Fourth :

How is the open loop/closed loop controlled? My german is OK-isch but I can't find it in the Damos. Or is the clue hidden in one of the correction maps (Maybe KFLF: 1=CL >1=OL?

I hope you would like to give me some pointers or maybe you have some infomation for me that I can work further with.

Thanks in advance.

Try asking on nefmoto , more oriented towards petrol motronic

Also try finding functionsrahmen
