Pops and bangs question

Postby evo1rs » Sat Mar 24, 2018 9:15 pm

So, I'm interested in finding out if there is a general recipe for pops and bangs in petrol tuning.
I know that a free flowing exhaust is important.
Also that you need to add fuel in very low load and overrun, ideally with no overrun cutoff.
Then you need to retard ignition in the very low load and overrun areas.

The question is, is there a general rule of how much to retard ignition by, and how much fuel too add?

Also is there a way to switch off injector cutoff in bin file?

Cheers, Dan.

Thanks for that, very interesting read but not quite that answer I was after!
There doesn't seem to be anything about that specific area, a bit about anti lag and launch but not what I'm after.

Thanks, Dan.

Manly three things are important: (in case of ecu some more!!!)
- ingition retard when tps closed
- tps
- fuel injection for overrun cut

Do it like you want to do is the noob way and can bring problems with it.

The question is, is there a general rule of how much to retard ignition by, and how much fuel too add?

No.

Hi, thanks for your answer, I am a bit noob and don't mind saying! I'm here to learn.

So you would suggest not adding fuel at all? Only inhibit overrun cutoff?

Unfortunately my daily is a Lexus IS300 which is un-chippable afaik, so I'm playing with a DET3 piggyback and can't switch off overrun cut. I've got a nice burble on overrun and pops when just off closed throttle. With slight enrichment and retard at low load.

Thanks, Dan.

yes you can disable the fuel cut by time set when clutch is triggered and pedal returns to 0%

well, depends on the ECU you're working, usually in the SIMOS 12 AND 18 YOU ALREADY HAVE a backfire mode you can activate and customize,in the ME7/9 MED9 its as easy as playing with ignition maps, minimum ignition limiters and pedal maps, MED17s just disable overrun cutoff and everything else done for the others too, overall in any ecu, depending on the exhaust setup and turbo as a general rule of thumb i retard ignition to around -10° btdc on cars with stcok cats with very little fuel up top, and up to -20° on cars with decats very high flowing exhausts, etc, depends on how hard you want the pops to sound, pass the file and i'll help you with it
