MPPS and the flashing of the glow plug symbol

Postby JPower » Tue Feb 11, 2014 2:23 pm

Hi,

I saw a friend reading an Audi edc15 TDi and after some problems with starting reading he was able to pull out the flash content of the ecu. But after the reading was ready the glow plug symbol was flashing and so he trurned off keys and then started a new read. After that the same with the glow plug symbol on dash.

Since I never saw anyone complaining about I wanted to ask if this is a well known "issue" or is there maybe more behind?

When flashing the ECU in a lot of cars, the glow plug, ABS, ESC and all other lights can turn ON. After flashing they will turn OFF.

If you write bad flash or you brick the ECU your lights may stay on :D

I agree with rpm freak. I am new to all this mapping but I have been working on cars for over 15 years using diagnostic equipment. on many models while reading the engine, air bag, abs ecu ect the warning light corresponding to that ecu will flash or remain illuminated until the communication is finished.

No DTC ...

I didn't make such an experience with diagnostics. Very often the ABS symbol is flashing during the ABS related reading but after the ABS diagnostics session flashing was always OFF which means there wos no symobol on the dash.

Here I saw the flashing of the glow glup all the time until the ignition was turned OFF, so therefore I was asking.

Also, on some cars during flashing, the vents (fans) are automaticaly turned on (some VW, BMW, Mercedes and also some Marelli ECU equiped cars) ;)

Thx! I was aware of the fact that the fans could kick in but the flashing light which don't stop to flash is new to me
