How do I know what ECU I have?

Postby Henrik » Mon May 21, 2018 8:25 pm

I own a 2010 Audi A4 Quattro with a 170HP engine and I've just got my Kess v2 delivered from china.

I thaught it would be just plug and play, so I got an old computer and installed windows 7 32-bit on. And installed the included. But when connecting to the car it will not read the information and it wants to know what ecu I have. I was hoping I could just write in the vin number and it would find out what to use, but it doesn't.

So what software do you recommend and how do I know what protocol I should use since it does not auto detect.

Kind regards
Henrik

Try finding out your engine code, check under the hood , under the trunk where spare tyre is, check drivers door...if you cant find it just select your car make model and engine and select one then try to ID if its not working try the other until it works

Thx

I've been digging and I hope Ive got it right..

CAH 193536

Looking at a table I would say a big possibility it's this:

EC kW Hp Ltr Cyl
CAHA 125 170 2,00 4 11/08- A4 AVANT

Looking at another site (https://www.dyno-chiptuningfiles.com/tu ... -cr-170hp/)
Bosch EDC17CP14 & Bosch EDC17CP20

So here we go!

I think I've tested everything!

Since I have a Bosch EDC17CP20 or CP14 I've tried all diffrent solutions..

Accoring to the pdf provied by Alientech my engine should use Protocol 198 and TRICORE.

This option is not available in the application 2.23. Either it's OBDII with protocol 198 or TRICORE 226 or OBDII 459.

None of these solves the problem. Does anyone have a clue what I can do, or recomendation of a better software than Kess 2.23?

So there is no simpler way than removing the ecu and ktag it.. there are sites who offers a unit to read the code..

http://sv.bsr.se/trimsatser/t/1582/audi ... -2012-caha

foro example, so it should be possible.

Or if you know of any other unit who is more successful in reading the ecu without removing the box :)

Kind regards
