EDC16 (Tuning Guide)

Postby djbalkanac » Fri Oct 19, 2012 1:28 am

I opened a new topic beacuse in previous topic was to much mess and i wanna to people who are new on this forum to learn it faster as i did with EDC15 :)

The system looks a lot like the EDC15 system, but the EDC16 system is based on Torque (Nm)
instead of Injected Quantity.

MAPS:

EGR:
(This map regulates the Exhaust gas recirculation valve.)
TORQUE LIMITER: This map limits the torque of the engine based on RPM and atmospheric pressure. The output of this map
is also Torque in Nm.
SMOKE LIMITER: (this map shows how much rotation it takes to achieve the requered amount of fuel injected)
SMOKE LIMITER MAP: (this map limits the IQ depending on airmass and the current rpm)
Drivers wish Maps:This map shows the required torque based on the RPM and the Throttle position. The output of this map is
Torque in Nm. There may be more drivers wish maps, in the file I used for this guide there were 8 drivers
wish maps.
Nm to IQ conversion map:This map converts the requested Torque in Nm into IQ (injected quantity).
Turbo map:This map set the required boost depending on the requested torque and current rpm. There might be more
than one boost map. In this file there are 2 boost maps.
Turbo limiter map:This map limits the required boost depending on the atmospheric pressure and the current rpm.
Single value boost limiter:This value limits the absolute pressure of the turbo. This value can be found by looking directly behind the
turbo limiter map.

IF I FORGET ANY MAP PLEASE LEAVE A POST BELOW :)

i took infos from PDF file below...
EDC16 tuning guide version 1.1.pdf

Maps that i dont have a clue what to do with them... ( i hope so somebody can explain me abit more what to do with them and axis, and how there need to be changed )
NM to IQ conversion map
DRIVERS WISH MAP
EGR

The other maps are pretty much same as EDC15 and almost the same tuning remapp

Think about this:
Older Edc15 can have 120maps+- that has to be tuned if you want pro tune...:)
And Edc16 is more complex, so listed maps is only basic.

Can you give me some more tips about EDC16....

So listed map its only starting... Are there more maps there need to be remapped, can you tell me abit

Most devices attached to the engine have requested maps, calibration maps to go with, sometimes upper and lower limits, sometimes hysterisis maps to go with....maybe even numerous PID maps for all these devices too.
Then you have all the sensors with voltage, current or pwm calibrations.
Conversions map.

Every device that plugs into the ecu has multiple maps.
A good exercise would be to find and identify all of them as well as find out what info they give the ECU or what info the ecu sends to the devices.
Then more importantly.... what the ECU does with that info
;)

I have a few question abot correct remapping

How do you calculate how much do you need to inscreese a duration map so car will not waist any fuel or have crank degrees?
I was looking and reading alot of forums but still i didn't find right information...

Can i inscreese X axis to higher IQ like it its in EDC15 for n75 and turbo map?
And about SOI - do you inscreese degreeses only on high IQ, but what did you did with low IQ, i wanna try to lower my consumption but i dont know what i should to with SOI at low IQ and high IQ

Can anybody help me if this maps are EGR switch?

The way I understand it is the duration map is a calibration map.
That means it looks up how long the injectors need to open to give the metered fuel at the requested rail pressure.
You shouldnt touch this other than adding columns to allow higher fuel flow.

So what you have is the SOI maps and the rail pressure maps to play with.
If you increase the pressure for the same fuel flow...the injector will open for less time.
So the end of injection will be earlier.
So if you want to keep the same end of injection the SOI must start later.

This should be setup on a dyno however.
If SOI is too early you get less power and more stress on the engine.
If SOI is too late you lose power.
MBT is optimum SOI.

However..SOI is often later than required for MBT for the sake of noise and/or emmissions.

If i understand you are telling me:

So its beatter not too touch duration map, only modify an axis to get higher IQ, if i understand you right

About SOI:
So if you wanna to requested injected quantity come faster to engine i should decrease degrees at SOI maps...
So at higher IQ should be lower than original one, so the fuel be delivered much faster, but if i wanna accomplish to have lower consumption should at low IQ what should i do?

But for best resoults its i "decrease" a little bit a SOI and give a test run and create a log file how car respond

If i understand right

What I am saying is ...personally.. I would not touch soi rail pressure or duration other than for adding new columns to allow more fuel.
I dont think you can tune them properly (only guess) without a dyno TBH IMO.
I have no dyno.
And having the injection too early WILL destroy your engine or considerably reduce the bearing life.

Where do you add new colums to get more fuel?
On SOI or on rail?
in both?

If I have the last columns on rail an soi set to 75 mg/str and I rise up to 80 mg/str I'll get more fuel, just changing x axis table? :?
