BMW E46 EDC16 learning

Postby WimmerA » Fri Apr 24, 2020 11:02 am

Hello,

I am searching for help, understanding ECUs and maps.
I have a bad tuning file from a colleague of his BMW E46 330cd and an original file of this software number.
I can´t find any good a2l or damos data and I searched a lot in the forums.
I am repairing a lot of BMWs and I think I understand engines quite good. I am working in the car industry.
Now I want to understand more of ECUs, it really destroys me not to know much about this stuff.

I will attach my data where I wanna start learning. I know EDC15 would be better to start but I don´t have any EDC15 files.
I want to see what they made wrong in the tuning file. It is just a dumb +% tuning I think.

Maybe anyone could help me with a2l or something I can read and study? I already found the EDC16 tuning guide but I have to see them in a file. I think I can learn it better by comparing 2 files.

I cant upload my files because "The extension is not allowed." ?

SW 361876 maybe someone can help.

you dont need any damos... to tell if its percentage ...tune
Do a log and you will know about quality.

You need to ZIP the bin file in order to upload it. Do that and i'll see if i have a matching damos

Hello,
Sorry I didn´t had much time because of health issues.

I could find most of the maps I think and today I will read out an E46 318d to have another map to learn from.

I now have a few questions though. I attached the bin and a screenshot of the duration map. This map doesn´t make too much sense to me. If I look at raising fuel volume at the same rail pressure, the injection times go up and down? Doesn´t the ECU then interpolate the injection times?
I saw another duration map of an E60 530d and there the injection time goes down when rail pressure raises at the same fuel volume. And the injection time raises when fuel raises and rail pressure stays the same. This makes sense to me.

Another question is: How do I know the limits what a stock turbocharger can handle? Do I know it if the car goes in limp mode or can´t hold the pressure while logging? Same with rail pressure or injection quantity?

Thanks in advance!
Greetings,
Alexander

A friend of mine gave me his E46 318d and I've managed to tune it to approximately 180hp and 360nm. Now I have to do fine tuning that everything is smooth. :)

This is the closest match i could find. You'll have to play around with offset and transfer maps from the project and over to your own

Thats great! Thank you very much :)
Offset doesn´t matter too much because I use it to study things :)
