Where's the best place to start?

Postby twintank » Mon Sep 22, 2014 11:29 am

Hi All,

As I said in my intro, I'm just getting into this sort of thing. Used to dabble with bikes mainly many years ago and got reasonably ok at it, but lost the knack after my attention was diverted elsewhere.

I'm now trying to pick it up again, but with cars generally. Where would be some good starting points etc?

I've had a look through the literature section and will get a few of the suggestions ordered as it's always good to have some physical paper to read to!

Initially I'm wanting to start with the Land Rovers systems and currently I have a TD5, so would like to start there. There's not much info about on this one, or not that I can find so any help appreciated :).

Kind Regards.

Also, obviously looking at some of the kit ... a lot of it is listed on Foreign websites which I would assume are clones? Are these any good and could they be a good place to start just as a dabble?

Do any of them have a better reputation than others?

Cheers.

Try getting a book about electronics, it would be helpful to know the basics. Not something you couldn't do without, but it certainly helps to know why things work...

Im the same, ive just bought MPPS cable off Ebay to have a mess around with on my own motors and maybe a few mates cars using pre-tuned files online and just flash them onI would maybe mess around with mapping if i get my hands on a cheap car.

Wheres best place to locate pre-tuned files?

Learning to program in an external programmer. You need to have knowledge in the field of electronics. Useful to good programmers obd (KWP2000, Galetto etc.), The full version of the checksum winols
