Tuning results -Alfa 166 136HP

Postby tommic » Sun Jul 02, 2017 1:17 am

This is my first ever remap and i want to share results, attached graphs show IQ during max acceleration (throttle position 100%). No smoke, maf not original, car "whoom" immeadiatly from 1.5k-4k, previously it had noticible lag in low-mid range (1k-2.4k), which was annoying in trafic jams.
I log data with android app "AlfaOBD", poor sampling rate but does it's job.

1-4.5k rpm smoke map +10%
1-2.6k rpm smoke map +12%->3%
Torgue limiter +10%
IQ limiter by temperature +10%

Did I nailed it?

No more lag, much aggresive acceleration, honestly fuel consumption increased a lot, because it's very hard not to drive sporty :)
To get even better response buy mechanical boost controller https://goo.gl/bDh6ec, this thing consists of two valves, Tee valve is always closed till fixed pressure (max turbo response till valve opens), other is bleed valve (regulates max pressure) which i left closed.

Updating changes in my remap:
2.300->2.450 SVBL

Hi Tommic,

I don't think you should use these valves on VNT turbos.

MHB has a VNT turbo, and to my knowledge risk of making a mistake the 166 5cyl 136BHP has a VNT too.

Hi fredvr,

I don't find specs on net about my turbo model Garret td2503 (used in my old Alfa 166).

Simple one: http://www.buyautoparts.com/images/wast ... layout.jpg (i think this represends my turbo)
VGT: http://www.autozine.org/technical_schoo ... VTG_1a.jpg

I'am 90% sure that td2503 is simple one (not VGT), so probably it's safe to use mech. turbocontroller.

Hi Tommic,

Does it look like this?
https://www.kijiji.it/annunci/ricambi-a ... v/33563644

To see if it has a wastegate or VNT.
Look at the controller on the turbo, if the control rod is 90Deg to the turbo shaft it is 99% a VNT
If the control rod is almost in line with the turbo shaft then 100% it is a wastegate.

You were right, my turbo nod is 90° and i noticed a label which says "VNT" :clap: , and what a shame that my old model doesn't controll VNT electrically, can't increase boost stepness or anything... Are you sure that it's very unhealthy to use boost controller with VNT turbos? BTW, i removed turbocontroller month ago but i was planning to insert it back after refiting new pressure controller which now cause engine cut offs.

I used EOI_Builder v1 to caculate EOI in CR°, i'am suspicous at results, because ATDC values are higher than 40°in high rpm range, is that normal?
