Tuning for a MAF Delete

Postby phantom » Mon Feb 27, 2017 11:40 pm

I did some tuning on my 02 Golf TDI (edc15) a few years ago but have not touched it in some time. Recently my MAF had died so I am driving without it till I can get order a replacement and get it in. This is the second time it has happened (last time I could clean it and it worked).

I want to tune using the MAP instead of the MAF so it will run more consistently and run better if I have to remove the MAF again.

Does any one have recommendations of tuning without a MAF. I could not find anything in my searches but the long days and a new born might be making in hard to think :)

The car is stock and i do not have a EGT sensor or boost gauge. (The main reasons I stopped tuning)

If this were a gas car it would be easy to do the SD (speed density) tune but they have an o2 sensor to use.

I have attached the original bin and what should be the current file that I am running. I need to get my computer up and running for tuning tonight so I can start on this again.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah I did not do to much to the tune back then just smoothed out the power a little to eliminate the flat spot in power. I'm going to see if i can get my old project file to update so i will have some of my notes.

Is there any way to add names/ descriptions to VAGEDCsuite? I know I had some more tables mapped out but cannot find my notes and I do not have winols installed right now. I know i can add the description of userdescription field but it looks like that did not come over from the last time I worked on my tune.

Looking at the unnamed tables I would think that one of the following would be the table I'm looking for.

3D 00076A70 C030 EA44 cuts off at 20mb

3D 000766B8 C030 C036 inverse of above table

3D 0005B6C4 DD50 DC48 This looks most like what I would expect but does not lead me to why the car will slow down when going up hill

Now thinking one of the above might be IQ by MAP limiter.

I got winols up and running It looks like i have about more tables loaded there than vagedcsuite. It looks like I only located some maps for glow plugs, an additional MAF table, N146 pump voltage, and additional idle settings. I do not have any MAP tables.

Is there a trick to exporting the tables file from winols? The export function is grayed out I might need to update it.

I guess that no one knows what table is for the MAP sensor I found the map vs temp but that was it.

Attached are the locations that I found that were not in vagedsuite.

Search for "MAF to MAP switch EDC15" (here and google  ) and you should find a few topics about this. Basically there is 1x1 "map" which switches between IQ by MAF or IQ by MAP limiter. And there should also be IQ by MAP and MAP vs AirTemp maps somwhere and you should also edit those if you want no-smoke tune.

And I would appreciate if you share the results, because I also have an ALH engine and am about to do "MAFless remap", but I wasn't able to find this MAP switch just yet
