[remove dpf on e92 330D]

Postby flo_sb » Tue May 13, 2014 3:55 pm

Hey Guys!

I own an E92 330D 2007/03 (231hp 500NM) and I am looking to remove my DPF and I have never flashed a car's EEPROM before.

I spent allot of hours of research on google however I still did not manage to come to some clear answers.
I was hoping that you guys could help me out with some questions:

1. To be able to fully read and write my car's ECU I would need Kess v2 or Galleto v52-v54.
Is this true? My last findings are that only Kess v2 (clone) will work

2. My car can either be EDC16, either EDC17. If 1st option, Kess v2 will be able to write straight through OBD2 port; if EDC17 I will need to use some wires (where? do i need to take out ecu and solder things on it?).
How can I find out what ECU I have? What data cable would I need for diagnostics, I.E. running BMW ICOM? Is this separate a separate "cable"/"dongle" or can Kess V2 do this aswell?

3. In case I manage to damage my ECU via OBD2 writing - it is my understanding that I could then use a BDM flasher and write the backed up EEPROM straight to it. I saw that there are special BDM frames (I.E. on the ECUBAY.com site) - will this frames work with a Kess v2 clone?

4. What is the cheapest way for me to be able to have FULL read/write access to my car's ECU file(s) ?

5. I have read somewhere that some EEPROM's come "locked" and need special unlock. Is this the case for my car?

Thanks allot in advance for clearing this up for me. Cheers!

one more question guys.
By reading https://sites.google.com/site/vagecumap ... -edc17-ecu,
I understood that at first I need to make the car run a successful DPF regeneration. My DPF is very clogged.

Don’t rip out the DPF yet. Some ECU files get very upset if you try a DPF file delete solution when the DPF is already reporting full and failed regeneration. It is advisable to always do a forced regeneration first before touching the DPF or the ECU file.

What if forced regeneration doesn’t work?

You may have to remove the DPF and soak it in something like alloy wheel cleaner for a day or so. Flush out with hot water if possible. Refit and try the forced regeneration again.

Based on this, I have one question to ask - how do I know if the forced regeneration worked or not?

Hy
it depends wat you will do, only for your car dpf off , i think its bether to find a good tuner and they will made you all dpf and mod. cheaper than you will spend for all the tolls wat you need, and no risk to brick something ;)
if you will learn and do it professionali, than bether buy some original toll, or buy a good fgtech v54 ;)

i hope it help you a litle bit more .

Hey avtodiagnostic,
Thanks allot for replying to me! :)

The thing is, I want to start with DPF off - pay someone to edit file for me after I read it from my car.
Then I want a DPF off and EGR off - and maybe in the future I will start trying to edit files myself.

I want to be able to switch between DPF off /// DPF & EGR off when the summer // winter comes (so my car can still heat fast in winter with EGR on) - so this is why I would like to have a dependable tool which can read/write my ECU - without needing to go to the tuner everytime :)

Could you recommend a good fgtech v54?
Thanks!

Hi Flo,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FG-TECH-V54-E ... 2c82751680

I bought from this seller on ebay. Support is ok, if you have a problem with the hardware you can write an email and the answer comes usually quick.

Well... i´m nearly in the same situation like you at the moment :D would like to delete EGR, DPF & cat from an BMW EDC16 ECU. Did you find already somebody who can handle it?

Hello Martin,
No I did not find someone yet because I did not buy the tool yet.
What I am wondering is if the maps on our cars are "protected" or not.

Anyway, I think at first I will just read my file and give it to a professional to do it. :)

Well i don´t know if the maps are protected, but with winols it would work anyway.
Today i did the first test drive with DPF+EGR+cat+vmax delete, works very well!
The file was prepared by http://www.cg-remaps.co.uk/
i can recommend this, the car runs without fault codes :)

Best Regards
Martin

Hello Martin, thanks for your reply.
It seems I am much slower than you :)

Only yesterday I managed to make the INPA data cable to work with ISTA, but I still did not find out what EDC I have :))
Best i could find was DDE6 D62M57A0.

Anyway, screw it, I bought the Galletto 54 from a friend's friend for something around 160pounds. When I am getting back home from my holliday, let the fun begin :)
