Running ECU on the bench

Postby lukew » Fri Jul 10, 2015 7:57 pm

I'm working on a project to build a diagnostic tool for a small group of BMW bikes using a modified version of KWP2000.

I have bought myself an EDC15C2 from a Pug 406 HDi 2.0 to use as a test for the physical and basics protocol layer of ISO14230. Is there anything I need to simulate or tweak in the software for the ECU to accept OBD connections on the bench and out of the vehicle? I have used some information from this site to get the pinouts, but I can't get the ECU to respond to my ELM scanners. I'm thinking the immob will be having a fit as there is no central locking or ign barrel loop, but when it comes to ECU's, i'm a bit of a newbie. I know my way around automotive systems in general, electronics, engineering, I've built a custom fuel injection system with my own design ECU and diagnostic system, but when it comes to other people's ECU's, this is my first experience beyond opening them up, going hmm, and closing the lid again.
