Rate My Tune: Guidelines

Postby rlees85 » Wed Aug 14, 2013 5:49 pm

I am just writing this to help people make effective posts in this section as I have been put off opening peoples tunes because bits are missing or it would be too much hassle. But I am not a tuning expert, so mods please either feel free to sticky or delete this.

What to Include:
  • Your modified file, obviously ;)
  • Your original file, preferably the standard file from the car as it came from the factory
  • Your map-pack file. For WinOLS this is a (*.kp) file, I think for other software like TunerPro it is an (*.XDF) file. Please include this!

To export your map-pack from WinOLS, do the following: within WinOLS, with your project currently open, goto the menu at the top and select: Project > Ex- & Import > Export Map Pack.

At the next dialog, select "All Maps" and then click ok.

Finally you will be given the option of where to save your Map Pack (*.kp) file.

How to Package:
Include all 3 files (including any supplementary files) in a ZIP archive. RAR/etc seems very fashionable on-line but the truth is ZIP is far more standard and everyone can open it. With RAR this is not the case and it is not worth saving 40 bytes from the file size 8-)

http://www.7-zip.org - This is good, simple, free software for Windows that can open/save many archive file types. Please use ZIP instead of the 7Z default :)

Uploading:
Sounds obvious but when uploading a file, the forum asks for Make/Model/Year/etc. It is really useful to fill this out as much as possible when attaching your file.

I am not a moderator to this forum in any way. But if people did this way it means people can download your file, import your found maps and changes into WinOLS in less than 2 minutes. With just a bin and nothing else it means people have to spend a lot of time to find all your maps for that ECU.
