Need help finding the egr map on 2002 alh ecu file.

Postby Iandude44 » Mon Feb 24, 2025 12:36 am

Hi all,

First time here, looking to dip my toes into tuning. I have a 2002 golf tdi 1.9 alh. I recently did an egr delete so was looking to change the map so I can get rid of this cel.

I got mpps working and VAGEDCSuite to work with. Downloaded the ecu file and opened it, but the EGR map it identified looks nothing like what I've seen online. I am at least the 3rd owner of this car and it has almost 400k km on it. I'm not sure if it's misidentifying the map or if someone has previously messed with it. I went through all the 3D unknown maps and found 3 that look similar to what I was expecting to see but not sure which one is the correct map.

The map that comes up as EGR:

The maps I found in unknown section that look more like the EGR maps I've seen online:

If anyone knows which one I should edit then please let me know. Thanks.

Hi, I'm not sure what codeblock are you using, so, change both maps, 54E4E, 64E4E and 74E4E all to 850

Sounds like you're off to a solid start, but with that many miles and unknown tuning history, it’s possible the ECU has already been modified. VAGEDCSuite is a good tool, but it can misidentify maps depending on the software version. Try comparing your pulled file against a known stock ALH tune to see if the EGR map has already been altered. If you don't really know, logging actual vs. requested EGR values while driving can help pinpoint what’s active. We do a lot of tuning work at my auto shop, a lot of which is VW tuning, so if you need more help hit me up.
