saab/opel EDC16C9 Launch control/popcorn

Postby dmpdiscos » Wed Apr 28, 2021 1:01 pm

hello everyone, ive been experimenting with the map on my saab 9-3 1.9Tid 150bhp (z19dth opel engine) trying to add launch control and popcorn limiter.

ive tried modifying the torque limiters for popcorn which does work but is too slow to cause pop. i cannot seem to find a svrl value for this ecu at all.

as for launch control im not certain how to add it on this vehicle as i think it has got multiple gear torque limits

i have uploaded my current modded file

would appreciate some pointers on how to do this - i am not looking for someone to do it for me just to give me a pointer on map locations as i am still trying to learn winols and spotting maps is proving difficult

Hi there,

I looked at your maps, but these are different from my JTDm 16v.

Nonetheless i can tell you this.

To enable launch control you need to find the map "lower limit of v/n-tolerance range of 1st gear"
This is a 1x1 map which indicates the speed of your first gear/neutral.
This indicates the speed where the minimum speed of first gear so that your ecu can make the difference between gears.

I.E. 1 -> 40= 1st gear
25 -> 60 = 2nd gear,

Etc.

There you need to set the value to 0, the lower limit of that gear to 0.

lower limit.PNG

Once that is done you need to find your first gear torque limiter map.
"Maximum Gearbox input at drive".
There you set the max NM input to 0 from the rev you want to engage the rpm limiter. Next axis you set a value of little bit higher.

In my case i set it to 2400rpm, so my axis look like that
X axis= 2000 2250 2400 2407 2750 3250
Value = 1000 1000 1000 0 0 0

maximum gearbox input at drive.PNG

The map for "lower limit of v/n-tolerance range of 1st gear" should be very close to the Gearbox torque limiter maps.

This is the info i found about your car.

5.Gear Dependent Torque Limiter General:From first to sixth gear and reverse, those map names speak for it.
They look like that:
Gear dependant Limiter.PNG

00002 00635 04000 10000 10000In Opel cars the data after 10000 are unused till the next 00002 then starts the next limiter 2x1.Those maps could start also with value 3000 and depending of the gear have the final value either 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 or 0. Axis has values 01200 01250 01500 01750 02000 02250....(RPMs)

Concerning pop's I have no idea..
The RPM limiter in my car doesn't pop, but i'm happy with that.
Pops are also not very good voor your cat...

thanks for that info, ill look into it further - hardcut/popcorn limiter is just something fun i want to add, car has no cat nor dpf and is straight piped so no issues with blowing cats out haha.

the only maps ive managed to find for gear limiters is the 2x1 maps, i dont seem to see a gerbox input one or lower limit as yet but ill take another look and see.

When overlapping your and my mapping, i'm pretty sure it's adres CE164, CE166 Or CE168

I'll add a couple of screenshots with the surrounding maps and the map details.

Lower limit vn tolerance.zip

Concerning the max gearbox input at drive, there are identical maps for this in my case.
Max gearbox input at drive.PNG

The first one is the one i had to modify.

when modifying the second it limited all my gears to the given rpm if i'm not mistaken.

Hope this helps!

thanks again,

i found the lower limit and adjusted that. im just struggling to find the max input at drive map. i will continue digging though

also on the 2x1 per gear maps are any changes required? all 7 of the gear limiter maps are the same for me (035 and 4000 as x axis and 10000 as data. no value for y-axis

In my case the "max gearbox input torque at drive" is the first 2x16 map in the row.
I have 2 2x16 maps with the name "max gearbox input at drive". The first one was the one I needed to modify.

Then i have 7 2x15 maps that are the limiters for the gears.
1st, 2nd,..., 6th and then reverse.

max gearbox input torque at drive.zip

I'll add the original file of my jtdm and the original file where i did the LC modification, including the damos.

Original with LC.zip

Hope this helps you.

ahh i see why theirs a difference, your bravo runs a edc16c39 ecu as opposed to the edc16c9 my saab is using. so i suspect maps will be wildly different probably

Did you get it to work?
I can't figure it out how to do it, in my file (EDC16C9, 1.9 CDTI 120km) I can't find "max gearbox input torque at drive" as I can't find it in your file also, and I'm wondering how to do it.
