EDC15VM+, issue with EGR off, 1.9 SDI (ASY)

Postby marcusm » Sat Mar 10, 2018 3:24 am

Hi All :) I use old Skoda Fabia 1, with ASY 1.9 SDI engine, manufactured 2004.
I wanted to turn off EGR and increase a bit IQ in Torque Limiter map up to AFR 15.4
VAGEDCSuite automatically recognized 2 EGR maps (codeblock 2 and 8), so I fulfilled both with 850 for all values.
After writing modified binary to ECU I have checked using VCDS if performed change works as expected.
Unfortunately VCDS reports the same EGR behaviour as before ECU flash modification. In Group 003 I still have in idle EGR 95%. I have to increase revs above 3000 rpm to see that EGR cuts off.

For sure I am missing something... Performed change in file is not correct or VCDS presents something different than I assume.
Could you please take a look on attached orig and mod files and let me know if this is the right way to disable EGR for EDC15VM+ ? Kindly let me know if there are other options that can be used here (e.g. simpler EGR switch).
Possibly I am missing good understanding on what VCDS presents in group 003 for EGR. Any guidance welcome on how to confirm if modified EGR configuration works as expected. There is no MAF sensor as in TDI :eh:

Mod incorrect, the operation checks must be eliminated

Hi, I have figured out solution :) I am sharing here for SDI users who may look for it.

After additional analysis of maps identified in ECU binary I have found map which drives EGR for SDI which do not have MAF as TDIs.
In this binary this is #75E82 which maps (IQ, RPM) to % EGR duty cycle (screenshot attached).
#75E82_EGR.png

e.g. when cruising (IQ = 5 mg, RPM = 2000) value is 9500 which corresponds to 95% EGR valve open. When RPM increase above 3000 or engine load increase (IQ >= 21 mg) EGR valve is closed (value in map is 500 which corresponds to 5% EGR valve).
So I have changed all the values to 500 and achieved reported by VCDS EGR ON with 4.8% stable for all RPMs and IQs :thumbup:

In other binaries possibly you can find similar map couple maps after used by TDI (IQ, engine speed) -> expected MAF.

Enclosed you will updated flash, changes comparing to original binary:
For codeblock 2 (manual)
    #75096 (IQ, engine speed) -> expected MAF = 850
    #75E82 (IQ, engine speed) -> % of EGR = 500
For codeblock 8
    #55096 (IQ, engine speed) -> expected MAF = 850
    #55E82 (IQ, engine speed) -> % of EGR = 500
Possibly update in expected MAF maps is not used at all in SDI. I keep this consistent to configuration changes in % of EGR maps.

Greetings
