VAG KKL Communication

Postby moflolo » Wed Mar 15, 2017 4:36 pm

I've got two ECUs here: a Siemens Simos 3PD and a Bosch EDC15P+

They both have a CAN-Bus but only for communication. I wasn't able to get a diagnostic session. I read they both use the K-Line interface for diagnostics. So I tried to do a diag via K-Line.
But apparently VAG does not use the standard K-Line interface but also uses the L-Line for communication. That's why you need special KKL-Interfaces for diagnostics. I have such an interface here (AutoDia K409) but I am not able to connect it to my ECU since I don't know where I can find the L-Lines. All the pinouts I found only show the K-Line. Note my ECUs are removed from the car. So there is not ODB2-Plug.

Can somebody tell me where I can find the L-Line? Or am I doing something wrong

If they are out of the car you can read them with BDM on the bench :)

That's right. I could do that. But since I'm doing a research I really want to use the diagnostic protocols on the ECUs

Then use a Galletto V54 etc... pinout is in the manual for each ecu.

Here is an example EDC15:

Maybe I wasn't clear enough...
To open a diagnostic session to EDC15P+ or Simos3PD I need use a KKL-Interface, right? A normal K-Line Interface would not be sufficient. But for that I need both K-Line and L-Line pins. But I can not find the L-Line Pin documented anywhere. Do you have an Idea how to find it?

I cannot find the exact pin for you but you could buy one of these and with a simple multi-meter you can find L-Line

I still didn't manage to open a diagnostic session with my two ECUs. I tried different Diagnostic Devices: Autodia K509, Diamex DX35 and Autodie E327.
Since all the Pinouts I found only show K-Line I connected Ground and K-Line to my diagnostic devices. But I never get a response of the ECUs.

Diagnostic normally is done by K-Line or CAN, some ECU's need relay for switching on IGN.. see pic of my bench rig
