Police siren sound

Postby Jaky » Mon May 25, 2015 3:01 pm

Hello,

had my Seat Leon 1.9TDI PD 77KW/2007/115 000km proffesionaly remaped. Right after remap car started to produce police siren sound that can be heard in reverse, first, second and barley in third gear when accelerating. Any thoughts? Thank you.

As above, sadly it means your turbo is on the way out. Can be a combination of the vanes sticking/not opening properly, or the bearings being worn inside allowing the inducer/exducer to vibrate.

If I were you, I'd get the turbo changed ASAP!

If your car goes as before, you can also check if you have loose exhaust manifold or turbo or and exhaust leak. Also, low oil pressure on low RPM can make such sounds with the turbo. Check that.

I work on these cars on a regular basis and as said above, it is a sign of turbo fatigue, I've had it alot where customers only notice it after a remap, it's generally not because it's a bad map but because the increase in boost etc shows up any underlying problems the vehicle already has. It's hard to say how serious/how long it will last, I would check for any play in the turbo if you can and see how bad it actually is, a friend of mine has a golf with similar engine on which the turbo is extremely loud but has been for over year :o
