It is a very good proposal. I think that a lot of the members are experienced SW users/developers, but are not good in the HW topics... So it make sense to have some list of basic rules/points (don't do this and this) that will learn newbies how to not brick/damage the ECU ...
I know one guy that damaged one ECU by just touching the ECU body with + pole of the battery, he was lazy to disconnect/remove the battery from the car. His goal was just to get better access to brake fluid container. :)

brilliant suggestion. Been searching for n00b guide for a while. But none cover the absolute basics all in one easy to read place.

I agree--- even a quick start will help--

Using examples:

If you have a VAG car using MED 9.1 and you want to tune tables, so you will need...

Hardware.
Software

Even if we didn't manage to modify our own ECUs, it would provide enough information when deciding on who to pay for modifications. i.e. If you mentioned a particular map or value and they looked strangely at you ........ walk away as they have probably just downloaded it from somewhere.

After aboult an half hour on this forum, i really support this beginner section, i find it nearly impossible to find what you are looking for.. ! :(

A beginner section with all the basic stuff, not jumping straight to tuning but just a section where all the basic understanding behind all this is.. :)
