Need MAP locations -02 BMW 525D

Postby aeomholt » Tue Jan 14, 2014 5:39 pm

I am familiar with the basics on how a common rail diesel engine is working.

I have also looked on several forums and lots of youtube videos trying to learn how to find maps which is kind of a "no brainer" while watching the videos, but its hard to understand which MAP is for which function and get the axis right.

The M57D25 engine is using BMW DDE4.0 aka Bosch EDC15C4 (C for commonrail), but near all info I can find are regarding Bosch EDC15P which is the one used on the WV TDI that's not a common rail diesel engine.

Some map names that I've learned by watching the TDI videos on Youtube :)

EGR map
Drivers wish map
Engine start basic map
Full load increase map
Torque limit map
I.Q. limited by MAF - Smoke map
Single value boost limit - SVBL map
Duration 0-5 map's
Duration choice map
Boost map
N75 map
Boost limiting map
Start Of Injection (SOI) map 0-9
SOI map choice 0-9
SOI limiting map
Fuel temp map

Are the maps generic for all the EDC15 ECU's, or are there different maps for the TDI injection pump diesel engine vs common rail diesel engine?

Can anyone help me with the map locations addresses for maps in the BMW ecu?

My goal is to understand a basic tune and how this is done. The engine in my car are supposedly tuned, but I like to know whats going on and do not fully trust the guy that sold it to me.

For a fuel tune I believe this involves the
Drivers wish map
I.Q. limited by MAF - Smoke map
Torque map.

Followed by more air by tuning the:
Boost map
Boost limit map
SVBL map

I hope someone takes the time to guide me down the right path.
Thanks :thumbup:

Especially CR engines are diffrent then PD

I will help you abit what you need to find:
Rail Pressure ( 16x16 )
Rail Pressure Limiter ( 8x16 )
Rail Pressure Limiter with high fuel temp. ( 2x2 ) -> stock 13500 / 2x maps
Injection/Duration map ( 32x15 ) -> 6x maps
Torque limiter: ( 19x1 )
Gear-dependent torque limiter (increased) ( 19x1 )
Gear-dependent torque limtier (normal) ( 19x1 )
Protection full load quantity ( 9x10 )
Smoke Limiter ( 16x16 ) -> 2x maps
Smoke Limit ( 2x2 )
Smoke limiter key-field with waste load air hose ( 6x6 )
Turbo map ( 10x16 )
Max. boost value ( 10x10 )
Drivers Wish ( 8x12 ) -> 3x maps

Yes they are indeed built on two different principles, and thank you very very much for info on the maps to look for! :clap: :thumbup:

I did notice the 32x15 maps so I'll practice a bit now on an standard file for this engine to define these maps.

If u need help i suggest you attach your file.

You can find the DAMOS file for EDC15 of 530d all over the net, just take a look there.. There are all the answers you need.. I did it this way and learned alot from it.. Takes time and patience but once you get it done you have everything you need to proceed..

Damos can be opened with WinOLS.

Before rail maps there are a few boost maps also .. Take a look :angel:
...you are looking for something liiiikeee..

(just added the pic without adresses so you can find it on your own.. I had to do it the hard way also :) )

...you can find a few more "smoke" maps also and dont forget about SVBL and VNT. I am doing work right now on my 530d Auto also, so i can help you out a bit.. I have spent today data logging with INPA and Tool32, i suggest you do to since if you are going to study the maps you have to know how to use them correctly and especially how the car makes use of them.

You will probably also get confused by airflow (MAF measurements) and absolute pressure measurements (MAP) which are not the same. One holds a key for how much air you can fit in the cylinder and the other one holds the key to correct boost settings. I suggest you log this data in your car.

Also search forums and internet around Lamba, AFR, .. air density, ... it will come in handy :)

Unfortunately I have not.
In the middle of a divorce :twisted:
But as soon as that is over I'll have more spare time on my hands :lol:
