MPPS DPF delete flash failing

Postby generalemail1 » Wed May 15, 2013 2:56 pm

Hi

I have been trying to help my friend with a tune and now a DPF removal on his A3 170. (genuinely)
I purchased a "tuned file" for his vehicle and we flashed this to his car using MPPS without issue.
My friend was happy with the tune but the DPF has always been an issue on his car.
The DPF has kept blocking over the past 6 weeks so now we have tried to flash the vehicle with a "DPF deleted" file.

This DPF delete file was also provided by the tuner as a free gift for review purposes but was confident to be OK.

I tried to flash (MPPS) the DPF delete file this morning but it stopped almost immediately. (error message about contacting MMPS etc) The progress bar got to about 1% and then went red and the flash failed and the car would not start. (fan running, "brakes" alarm on dash)

At this point I thought I might be in serious trouble but when I tried to flash the car back to the tuned file - this was successful - car started ok.

I tried another time with the DPF delete file but it kept on failing just after starting just after security check perhaps 1 or 2 %

Could it be something simple like a a checksum? (MPPS should checksum anyway)

Just some additional information is that I also tried with a "volta 1.2" processed version of the tuned file and this also failed shortly after starting. (possibly 5 % progress)

Just to confirm

Original flashes OK.
Tuned flashes OK (mod)
Tuned + DPF off - fails (mod)
My Volta process of tuned file also fails
The car can be flashed easily after a failed flash with either the original or the tuned file.

Is this normal for the flash to fail part way through just based on what values are within the file? I might have thought that the flash would complete?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

i don't think is dpf off problem but but you can try with manual dpf off solution
or at least change tuning tool

Thanks for your quick response

I dont know the manual solution for PPD1.2 ( I know it for EDC16) so i am relying on either the tuners file, or a Volta processed file or a ECUsafe processed file.
I tried two of them this morning, I could also try Ecusafe 2.0.

Is it definately not a checksum issue? (original and tuned files flash OK but tuner supplied DPF delete and volta file do not)
Is it normal for a flash to fail half way through a flash just because of the values within the binary?

Is it safe to try several more times with these files? This morning I was able to reflash with another file when the DPF files crashed.
I always read and thought that a crash halfway through a flash meant serious trouble that would then need BDM/boot mode recovery.

What are my options to learn the manual solution?

the only why to learn manual solution is to buy that solution from pro tuner and study his solution

This turned out to be a checksum issue.
