Mini R57 starting points

Postby NYCenigma » Wed Sep 14, 2022 2:02 am

Been searching but can't quite seem to find the answers I need. Which adapters and software do I need to work on my Mini? Want to start analyzing the tune and seeing what I can improve. Thanks in advance.

Firstly you need to know what you want to change and what you have..
eg: what ECU and engine you have and what you want it to do.
There are different tools depending on what you intend to do, a diagnostic tool does a different job to a programming tool etc..
Best do some research on your car before looking for tools, the research will dictate what tools you will need.
If you're not getting the answers you are looking for then you're not asking the right questions.

Basic control unit DME MEVD1727 ECU. I have larger turbo, intercooler, intake, and high flow exhaust systems installed. I paid a shop to re-map the ECU. In the process of looking for a shop I decided I wanted to see if I can learn to do this myself. My end goal is to learn how to adjust air/fuel/timing sequences to make use of the upgrades and better prepare for my next car build I plan on doing since that one I want to do everything myself from the parts to the tune.

Ok, so now you need a programmer for your ECU, I personally use K-TAG to read these as it gives a full read including immo.
There are 2 ways to read this ECU, 1/ is by OBD2 and 2/ is by BDM pins, I perfer option 2 as it's a full read,
but requires you to remove the ECU from the car and open it.
I found this video to show where your ECU is located for removal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-3OUrilBVc

Hope this helps

Here is another video showing how to open the ECU once out of the car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nkqMU2tgHg

Enjoy!
