Is it worth it to tune a Skoda Rapid 1.6 TDI 90hp to Level 2

Postby morpher9 » Mon Oct 02, 2023 1:22 pm

Hello,

I have a 2015 Skoda Rapid 1.6 TDI with 66kW (90 HP) that I'd like to boost with engine tuning. I'm not an expert in this area, but I've noticed there are Level 1 and Level 2 options.

According to a website, it seems that upgrading from stock to Level 1 will significantly boost my car's performance:

Level 1 (Image 1):
90hp -> 140hp (+50 HP)
230nm -> 310nm (80 NM)

Level 2 (Image 2):
90hp -> 150hp (+60 HP)
230nm -> 330nm (100 NM)

So, it appears that upgrading to Level 2, which is quite expensive and involves changing many parts, only gives me an additional +10hp and +20nm compared to Level 1. That doesn't seem like a significant improvement, and Level 1 is cheaper and easier to achieve through reprogramming. In fact, I'm considering doing it myself.

I've also heard that this kind of tuning may not be beneficial for other car brands. Is there something I might have missed, or are there other improvements not mentioned here, such as fuel consumption? Are the extra 10 horsepower worth it?

Are there any downsides to my car after upgrading to Level 1 or Level 2?

Thank you for your insight and advice. I'm located outside the EU/USA, so I'm not concerned about any restrictions.

All this depends on your ECU, without knowing what you've got it's difficult to say.
But looking at your post I think you mean Stage1 and Stage2, and you are correct in the fact it's
Stage1 for unmodified car and Stage2/3 for modified car, as a rule.
You must also remember that tools to read and write are expensive and for a one-off it's as cheap to go
to a professional.
