A friend of mine repairs VP pumps, he mainly repairs mechanical pumps because he can’t test EDC pumps as he doesn’t have the right equipment for his tester to control the flow regulator.
I’d like to help him so that he can repair and test EDC pumps as well.
I was wondering whether it would be possible to build a control unit from a VAG EDC 15 ECU that would effectively control only the flow regulator....
The idea is as follows:
- There would be an ‘accelerator pedal’ with which the desired HDK position could be set.
I know that, by default, the ECU links everything to the crankshaft speed. But is it possible to control the flow control valve without using the crankshaft speed?
If it’s possible to disable the RPM monitoring… can we override the start-up phase and all kinds of flow control corrections?
The key point is that if the control unit detects 0 engine RPM, it should still send the position requested by the accelerator pedal to the HDK. That way, we could also test the flow rates of the EDC pump on the test bench.
