Immo off for a replacement ecu ?

Postby fieldsy » Fri Feb 22, 2019 11:48 pm

Hi all I’m quite inexperienced with immobiliser end of tunning, just a quick question if I had say for instance an e46 bmw with an ecu not working, and I wanted to replace it so I buy a second hand ecu do I need to clone the data from my original ecu and write it to the replacement of van I simply open the ecu read it with KTag and get a immo of map and then it’s essentially plug and plug am I correct ??

Also what is meant be the term Virginise ecu ?

Sorry if I’m asking a stupid question but it’s the only way to learn

As long as the hardware type is the same you can clone it, need to copy eeprom & flash on most.
Usually the eeprom contains the immo data which is why in some cases you can just copy the eeprom.
Virginise is a term really meaning Factory reset, ready to connect as new.
Most immo systems auto re-connect if you use a virgin ecu, providing your immo is in working condition.

Not all ECU's can be made Immo off, some need the Immo to be working and the ECU set to factory (Virgin)
then the Immo adds info to the ECU and the car will start.
For those ECU's that can't, there is emulator PCB's that can simulate the Immo box.
Others, like Renault's "Sirius32" just need a wire cutting and setting to Virgin.
The list goes on, but you can ask here and someone will help :)
