Hyundai i30 - 1.6

Hello,

This is my first plan for this car. (Also My second tune. My first was a Golf 4 TDI 1.9, 4 years ago.)

For this tune, I aim at a gain of 50Nm. I've seen several commercial tuners offering a similar raise for this car.

Torque

First I set the drivers wish (1C177E) to the new wanted values. 254+50 = 304 Nm.

I noticed that in the org maps, the gear limiters (from 1D0FD2) were the limiting factor. So I reased them to 330. I also reased the generic 2D torque limiter (1CDBFA).

http://www.xs4all.nl/~hneel/misc/20160226_192619_tune_1_torque.jpg

I had 3 Nm to IQ maps in my file (from 1D06CA). I figured the 1st was the active for 'normal' operation (as opposed to dpf regen). It is a linear map, and to get the i.q. values you have to divide the torque by 6.

304 Nm then gives 50.7 mm3.

Of course, I didn't touch the calibration maps.

I noticed many maps that have an I.Q. axis, have a highest value of 50 (or 55 for dpf regen). I took notice to see if these max values were limiting me, but in most cases they didn't seem to.

Fuel

I raised the limit of some fuel maps to 65 mm3. Well above the highest expected value of 50.7. A little higher than necessary, just to be sure.
- 1CDFE0: coolant temp / RPM. This one was already maxed out to 100.
- 1CE5EC: vehicle speed / percentage?? Upped tp 65.
- 1CE824: Air mass / RPM? I saw this one mamxed out to 100 in another file. So I followed that.
- 1D2830: Intake fuel temp / RPM. Upped tp 65.

I didn't touch the Lambda maps (from 1CF2E0). They looked fine.

EGR

I wish to get rid of the EGR function. So I maxed out the EGR map at 1C26A8. (The value 8192 seems to indicate 100%)
I also zeroed out the hysteresis maps at 1C559C and 1C5602.

Turbo

I noticed that the values in the turbo maps were already very tight to each other.
So I didn't dare to raise these maps.

Look for a difference between my first car and my present one (both ori):

Instead I only made the top of the boost map (1E70B2) a little wider (instead of higher).
I also widened the boost limiter at 1E72E6 a bit.

SOI

In my previous tune I learned that the SOI values were heavily retarded at the places on the map where EGR was active. I learned that I could raise it there by up to 4 degrees. I also learned better not touch the map at the upper edges (IQ and RPM).

This file had 5 SOI maps from 1D62F0 and a selector map at 1D60AC. The 5th map is for dpf regen, so it seems.

I only touched the first 4 maps. I raised the lower/mid areas a bit (to aim for better economy at cruise driving). And I smoothened some low 'holes' in the maps.

VNT

I haven't touched them yet. First I will measure if I'll get boost spikes with my new tune. Since I hardly altered the turbo maps, I don't expect so. But maybe closing the EGR will have effect?

I think the correct map (of 3) is at 1E6230.

Rail maps

I haven't touched them.

Rev limiter

I want to protect my car at the annual emission test. This test is done by pushing the pedal all the way, while the car is in the garage. Then the emissions are measured. Of course, this is not very healthy for the car, especially if the engine temps are still low. But if the car might get damaged in the process, the government obviously doesn't give a f***.

In my previous car I limited the RPM by the launch control map. If the RPM doesn't go as high as they expect, the still have to let the car pass the test.

This car doesn't seem to have LC. So I have thought of 2 alternatives:
- first is by changing the gear ratios (1D0F0C). This should make the map for first gear on for neutral gear, all gear maps up to 5th shift up on be place. (I have no 6th gear in my car, so loosing the 6th gear map is no problem). On the new Neutral gear map, I changed all torque values above 3000 RPM to zero.
- Coolant temp IQ limiter. This one was maxed out to 100. I change it so that below 50 C, RPM is limited to 3000. This is a safeguard based on actual temp rather than on speed.

I'm not sure which way I'll use. I'm gonna test them both (haven't done so yet).
