How to Read/Write?

Postby nilsson » Fri Nov 28, 2014 10:47 am

Hello.
Have watch some tutorials on youtube to learn more and have some questions to see if i got it right.

You have three way of reading and writing:
1 De-solder the Eprom, and put the Eprom in a reader and read/write.
2 Mount the pcb in a frame. And read Eprom.
3 Serial via OBD2-connector.
Have i got this right?
Is it some benefit to de-solder the Eprom, or is that they just cant get read/writhe thru OBD2?

In obd2 serial read/write its two types, via Can or via K-Line?

When you read, you just read, and after reading the car is just like normal? Little chance too upset something?
During writing its much bigger chance to upset the ECM?

I have seen on KESS on youtube, and it seems like read file, send for modification, and write file back, have become a procedure that will be viable for me.

But big question, the cars today with multiple ecm and complex system. Did you have to choose which system to read (ask the tuner which file he need to modify), or did you read all, and find the right files in the "tuning software).

Onforums its often asking for dumps, when i member have problem. What will these dumps include?

Regards.

Hi, one way of rempping is to remove the ecu flash chip inside the ecu, read it with a programmer then edit the map file then reflash the eeprom and re-solder back into the ecu, its a little tricky but not to bad the problem with newer cars is that the ecu map is stored on more complex chips tricore etc that would need specialist equipment. I've only a noob myself when it comes to mapping cars. But the best advice I could give you is if its your own car ask people on here the best hardware to use to read and write to your ecu, then get your map from your car and pay for someone to alter the map to your liking.

Regards
Pete

Thanks.

Yes my plans is not to modify files, just read them, send to a professional for modifying, yhan write back to ecu.

Is there som good tutorials on books dvd or on net. Want to learn different ways, and why and how, in reding/writing.

Im not in to get info for free, i can pay for books or DVDs, but i want to now that the info is good.

Thank you.

All depends on ecu that you want read or write

on some cars just reading can make you loosing injector coding or other important setting then the car if it still start has lost lot power. it's just enought to drive to the dealer and make the correct configuration

some tools record this setting and during write they write them back after closing the write of file then no problem car is restored
