Help with W630 2.1 CDI 100kw Delphi ECU brick

Postby Johnny518 » Mon May 26, 2025 8:55 pm

Hello.

Is there anybody here who can give me some suggestions/help?

Have A Delphi ECU (Merc. W639 CDI).

Before fail I did a backup (plus ID) trough OBD and Kess v2.
HW: 6519020100
SW: 6519027403

Writing was interrupted (Computer failure).
No more OBD-connection possible, Kess would not write again - wrong protocol.

Opened on bench, soldered wires, got connected with Ktag,
ID was corrupted, so who knows what got corrupted? Would it only be the part written, or could other parts be affected?
Ktag would not read ECU - returned error.

So I did restore with the backup (made with OBD&Kess from before fail) on the bench, worked fine.

ECU in car, still no OBD connection possible, ignition turns on, but engine won't start, and starter not turning.

I assume getting another ECU won't help, and I assume my main problem is that I have no full backup from the ECU, only the partial trough OBD?
Is this ECU stuck in a certain mode due to the failed programming? What can I do from here?

Any chance anybody has the dataset required (ECU with updates from MB due to "Dieselgate")?
Or any suggestions how to proceed from here with the data I have?

Mixing Bench and OBD has probably bricked it, you needed to force restore via OBD to fix it.
Not sure how you fix this now as you've overwritten it.
I once fixed one like this by using another ECU and doing a restore from the old ECU, may work.
You may also need to read the eeprom separately to write to the new ECU.

How could I have forced the restore via OBD?

Kess would not do it. Tried several times. If memory serves right: Protocol error, or whatever it was. Same behavior as right now when I try to connect via OBD.

I'm assuming then you only have a fake tool? if so then you might not have the tools to fix it.

I most likely have a clone. Product online was relatively cheap.

I however am under the impression that these clones have the same functionality, as long as it's not a low quality board...

With the non-clone: What additional options would be there?
