Help|New guy best car to start tuning with !?

Postby Turb0guy » Mon Jun 27, 2016 9:44 pm

Hello,

I'm really interested in tuning ecu's for long time now and until now i was more familiar with the mechanical side .
currently i'm without a car and i'm planing to buy one in the purpose to learn on it the ECU world .

So i wanted your advice what car would be the best/easiest to start to learn with.

several option's i thought about :
1. Honda civic(*p28*)
2. Audi A3 1.8T (also have some after market tuning on the oem ecu)
3. Peugeot 106/205 *8v* (just cause i love it and it is a simple engine )

Those are the options i thought about based on the budget (not from Europe so price range is different )
you still can suggest other vehicles around this price range and i can check if we have them and if it fit's my budget.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ANY KIND OF HELP !!

P.S. sorry if my English is not the best

@turboguy

The above linked tool is the sort of thing you will need to be able to read and write to your ecu.

Then you will need some software to be able to change anything with the maps.

If you get the audi 1.8t then you can use "tuner pro" to change tables (you can use it for others but there are plenty of definition files for the 1.8t)

If you can get hold of winols that is probably the best software though

A Honda Civic P28 was the first car I ever did any ecu tuning on.
Engine should have had a P30 ecu (b16a2) but had a P28 (d16). Someone had messed with the D16 file to try and make the B16a2 run. We just swapped the bin for a P30 file and it worked fine. we moved on to tuning it using CROME, a great, free program for Honda ECUs. To re-program we were opening the ECU (had been socketed) and burning EEPROM chips. The whole thing cost next to nothing inc. buying the chip burner and spare chips (SST27sf256)

Read and write is done in the software that comes with the chip burner, the file is then loaded into CROME where changes can be made.
