Hi there!
I want to use the opportunity to introduce myself: I am from austria and generally interested in how things work.
My background is IT and coding (mostly on *nix devices) and I got rudimental knowledge about reverse-engineering.
For automotive purposes I played around by copying and changing eeproms long years ago when volkswagen brought up the 1.9 TDI in Golf 3... - but in that time it was more blind trial and error :)
As I drive a 2.0 TFSI I am interested in how that little ECU works and so my estimated next steps are:
- find a humble person to suggest some good manuals and documents to read myself into the matter
- get a cable to read out my own ECU
- find the right software to locate and identify the interesting variables / curves / surfaces
- understand the relationship between the different values regarding engine physics
- as soon as I understood everything and got enough balls write a modified version back to find out if the engine starts :)
I do not have a garage or a workshop so this is general curiosity for me :)
And for austria: no - no beard.
