Hardware for flashing (specific question)

Postby JPower » Mon Nov 04, 2013 8:23 pm

Hi everybody,

Since I am new within ECU remapping I need to buy some hardware to start with reading/flashing ECU's. I need the hardware mainly for VAG vehicles, but every other vehicle would be also preferable. At this time I would like to do an old Golf 3 GTI, then Passat EDC15 Diesel as well as T4 (should also be EDC15?) and then also EDC16 Diesel.

I have been searching for a while and found some stuff for my undertaking. Maybe somebody could give me recommendation on the one or other hardware I found.

1) Programmer for old ECUs as from the Golf:

Since I have no experience I don't know which memory layout should be supportet, but I would like to buy a programmer which could do more or less every ECU.

- Batronix BX40 Bagero II or the high-end product, the BX48 Bagero II
- MiniPro TL866
- True-USB PRO GQ-4X Willem

2) Flasher for EDC15 and EDC16:

There are a lot of products, also a lot of clones so I don't know which one and where to buy. I would also prefer an original product due to given support but since I am not professional tuner it should be one which is affordable. So is there any original flahser which is not soo expensive and where I could buy such an flasher?

And as mentioned above there are a lot of cloned products, the most popuplar are MPPS V12, KWP2000+, KESS V2 or Galletto. I often read about problems with Galletto and that there are some versions of that flasher so I am confused. Could someone give me a hint which one is good to start (should mean also safe while flashing)?

Then the problem is with checksums. Would be good to have checksum correction too.

3) Desoldering station:

Is there any recommendation for such an station?

I hope someone could help me since I don't want to buy the worng hardware which is not really cheap.

Thanks a lot!

If you can have the galletto software without the cable, buy a vag-com with the obd2 cable and you will have a 2 on 1 (vag-com do diagnosis and galleto to flash the maps from vag cars :)
