From Algeria with Love.

Hello everyone,

I'm Jugurtha from Algiers, Algeria. I'm in Electronics Engineering, and I became recently interested in ECU's. I didn't even know what they were until I picked up an aluminum box that turned out to be a Boshc HID ballast that was thrown.

I lost the file documenting the teardown (the microcontroller used, etc...) but it was interesting.

What interests me specifically is heavy-duty. I'm interested in Caterpillar ECU's and would like to know what there is to know, and then some more.

What's necessary to connect, read, diagnose, write, etc... The minimum it takes to do everything, and then the options and all.

I'm already reading CAT documentation (CAT ET, etc.) and as to writing, I know there's a need for special passwords for "Factory" changes. I know there's a suite called Service Technician Workbench that includes ET, SIS and a bunch of other tools.

I have an idea on the hardware it takes to connect.

Anyway, I'm new here and would like to learn what there's to learn. Heavy duty may not be the focus of this forum, so if you know forums that are of good quality about the topic, I wouldn't mind the tip at all :)

All the best,

Jugurtha
