Ford fiesta 1.6 zetec S TDCi EDC16c34 intermittent problem

Postby AllAutoSolutions » Thu Mar 20, 2014 3:12 am

Hi every one,
I've been asked to sort the problem out.
The vehicle is a Ford Fiesta 1.6 zetec S TDCi. 2007 reg
The ECU is Bosch EDC16c34.
The DPF/FAP filter has been taken out and the turbo has been replaced.
The ECU is intermittent in that some times it will let me read the error codes via OBD. But will not let me read or copy the whole of the ECU to make the changes for the missing DPF/FAP.
I've tried to read the ECU with galletto 1260 and MPPS.
With galletto 1260 it gets to 50% into the process and I get an error. With MPPS it got to 80% then an error.
MPPS and galletto 1260 also don't show any details of the ECU when you ask with the software.

Does anyone have files for this vehicle ECU type with the DPF/FAP turned off. An what would be the best way forward.

I know this may sound stupid but, I have a petrol version of the ECU. If I had the files for the diesel version and flashed that with them would it then work in the Fiesta. I say this as flashing is over writing the original software. so as long as the pins in and out are the same it should work.

Has anyone done this?

Would be very grateful for the help.

Hi, at first, petrol ecu can`t work on a diesel car !! of course.
For that ecu edc16c34 must use bdm read and write or will brake the ecu.
Your galletto and mpps do not read that ecu because is bad clone.
And at last, if you have good read from the ecu, than can be done fap off. ;)

Hi dean21b,
Thank you for the reply.
I'm not using clones. The garage has original kit.

I did a ford focus for them with the same engine and ECU some weeks back. Using galletto. Worked first time.
Does the Fiesta have something different programed into the ECU to stop you from flashing via OBD. or is it best to always use BDM. (I have ordered BDM kit).
I'm new to this side of programming the ECU, I normal only do basic diagnostics and immo on/off, service lights, air bags etc...
But want to go into this side as I keep getting asked.
I only started doing this to help a mate out that owns 2 used car lots. for some extra money. But its quickly turned into a nice little business, as other garages have started to ask for help.
I have a back ground in IT spent 16 years as a lecturer in IT & Engineering. So understand Hex etc... read and changing the files is not a problem.

Is BDM the best tool or one of them for flashing the ECUs. What other tools would you advise on having to hand for flashing ECUs.
or will BDM be all I need to get me started.

Any advice on this area I would be grateful for.

Once again thank you for your help.

Now waiting on BDM to be delivered.

Hi, galletto 2, maybe will read ok,using the obd, but, I work 10 years and never start to flash without making good backup.
Best thing for that is bdm or some similar interfaces.
