Easy ECU tuning software for beginner? (VAG, specially Audi)

Postby VilkkuS » Thu Jun 09, 2016 2:37 pm

Hey,
I'm just starting to learn ECU mapping/tuning for these OEM ECU:s, and I'm looking good/EASY software that i could use for tuning.
I have tuned cars for several years, so basics are OK
But I have not tuned OEM ECU:s just aftermarket for my "race cars", like: Vems , Megasquirt etc.
(Example i have had several 500-750hv cars tuned by myself, and still got few of those)

I got this "MPPS 13" china wire and software, that seems to read OK my ECU:s on my Audi A6 3.0TDI and Audi Q7 4.2TDI
Example I have great tuned maps in my A6 3.0TDI (not done by me) but I would like to learn to tune those by myself too.
I could be interested to tune MB also, because we got some MB Sprinters too.

PS. Vag-Com / VCDS is very familiar too for diagnostics.

hi man. best is to buy proper flashing tools first, i would recommend kess and ktag. for editing files? winols is the best. tuning is quite a expensive thing to get all the right equipment, but in the long run it's worth it.

Would the winols demo version be of any use if i want to use it for only 1 or 2 cars?
The whole checksum part is still mysterious to me. (i'm new)

Is there any tutorials on manually calculating checksums?

Bitedit and tactrix are the best for beginners I reckon!

My 2 cents

ECM Titanium - Good enough for around 15 to 20% gains max. Very easy to use. The software will auto detect drivers for you and you get access to maps right away.

WinOls - More complicated. You need to have definition files that will tell the software where each map is located. More often than not you will also have to manually search and find maps. BUT you have full access to all the data. If you are a power user then winols will let you change base scales ( say a map has only 300nm max torque scale, you can change it to 400 or more depending on your build )
