Custom/cheap tools

Are there any Arduino/Teensy/whatever based tools about? I'm a bit reluctant to spend money on flashing tools as all I am doing currently is trying to use an EDC15C2 as a bench test for a project, and I have a feeling that I will need to do some tweaking to get it working on the bench.

you will need to provide more data of what you wish to do :) to be able to help you.

Currently I need to have a KWP2000 ECU on the bench and allowing me to access the diagnostics for development. I am not sure if I have killed the ECU I have by following the wrong 3 connector pinout, or it just wont allow OBD access without being connected to other modules and having the immob disabled. I am getting data on the CAN-bus so I assume the CPU is running, but I don't want to buy tools to disable the immobiliser or perform other tweaks if the ECU is dead and I need a different tool for a replacement.
