Common Rail Tuning Tips & Advices

Postby juice » Tue Mar 08, 2016 4:44 pm

Hi guys, i wanted to get toghether some informations about remapping properly a Common Rail Engine.
It's well known that timing on CR engines is more precise than on simple diesel injection system, which have only one main injection event.
I also saw the same behavior for reducing nox : EGR + Retarding timing.
What do you think about blocking EGR and add more timing in EGR whole area ? At least on my tests, with +2 to 3 degrees, i got some lag, or is just in my mind.
CR , being a multipilot injection, can have a post-injection event to warm up combustion chamber for next injection event. It's a recommended case to add timing ? Or this timing was retarded with a good reason ?

For achieving economy also another variabile is pressure injection.
Attached is an SOI map original + mod. For the moment i dont feel so much economy, maybe should i run it for at least a tank of fuel ?
Also EGR + Flaps are off, things that are mostly present on newer CR engines.

I have tested that fuel economy is not related to egr deactivation, unless you recalibrate vnt maps to lower pressure where egr used to work, that way you will recover fuel consumption and can even get better results.

You say that VNT is too closed on EGR zone and creates backpressure which can affect economy? What about timing ?"
