Change Idle on Mazda SkyActiv

Postby wayfarer » Mon Jul 03, 2017 11:26 pm

I would like to raise the idle a bit on my 2014 Mazda 3. I'm evaluating a couple ways of doing this and one, of course, is altering the ECU program. Does anyone have experience with these ECU's? I believe one is made by Denso and the other Mitsubishi I haven't checked yet to see which I have. I didn't see much Mazda stuff on this forums, especially for newer vehicles. I don't currently have any specialized software. I'm thinking about buying a Tactrix Openport (or similar, if someone has opinions) to dump the current program. If I did so, is it likely that I could edit the programming with something as simple as a hex editor? Ex, identify the idle speed using something like the Android app Torque, find this value in the bin, change to desired value and re-flash. Or maybe modern ECU's have protections in place for that? Maybe a program like Tuner Pro would work?

There is a specialized software called MazdaEdit, but a license is tied to a car's VIN and it's hard to justify from a cost perspective - I don't really want to tune, just change my idle and hopefully learn along the way. Hoping to pull from other experience before getting in over my head though. Has anyone toyed with these or have a similar bin?
