BMW 525D EDC15C4 Turbo Boost delay help

Postby xeliosblo » Sat Jun 13, 2026 6:27 pm

Hello everyone, this is my first post here and it might be against the rules, if it is i am sorry for that.

I bought used 2001 BMW 525D E39 and the owner told me that the only issue the car has is the delay in the turbo (the car is a monster after 2300rpm but before that the turbo doesnt really kick in, he said the turbo problem began when he got a tunning for stage 1) I got a kess clone and downloaded the file but I have no experience how to tune it. Can someone maybe just check whats wrong with the map and point me in some directions or fix it right ahead. Thanks!

About the tune. Tune is let’s say not the best. Every TQ limiter changed(limp mode too),Smoke maps and DW maps has each one as Low range-changed too. IQ values are also too high: in Smoke maps IQ exceeds more than 100mm3,in TQ limit maps more than 111mm3,but in some IQ limiters maximum is around 73-74. DW maps max is around 83. Rail pressure increased, but rail limits left stock 1350bar. Duration and SOI maps also done not correctly. Now about boost. Boost map requests around 2600mbar peak(which is too much for a 525D turbo),but SVBL is stock 2250mbar so that’s strange that it doesn’t go into limp mode.(maybe because there’s not enough fuel and the boost won’t go over limits or there’s some turned off dtc’s).N75 map is almost exactly same as from 530D version,so I don’t know if your car has 3 liter engine swapped, maybe just turbo from 530D or this is something else, because comparing maps it is similar more to 530D file and not from 525D. So I suggest you to do some live data/logging and see the requested vs actual values. And about that lag you should check what you have under the hood, read the file with that kess then compare hw and sw numbers there and on your ECU. You can try maybe tune the N75 map,but I would suggest you to find completely stock file and do the tune to it from zero.
