Audi A3 EDC16U1 Eeprom error 18048 P1640

Postby Rottie Mad » Sun Jun 07, 2015 7:33 pm

I have recently bought an Audi A3 which had a completely missing steering column/ignition barrel and didnt come with a key.

After looking online I managed to find a matched set comprising of ECU/Dials/Transponder ring/Ignition barrel and a single Key!

Upon fitting and scanning with VCDS I am getting the error code:

18048 - Internal Control Module
P1640 - 000 - EEPROM Error

From what I gather by looking on the Ross Tech website, this either means my ECU is bricked or it has been re-mapped!

I have VagTacho 5.0, VCDS 12 and Vag K+ CAN Commander cables (all clones and work in the best part other then VT 5 which has minimal functions)

I currently have sat here:

My original dials and ECU which came on the car minus the key & Transponder (I believe I have pulled the SKC code for this set up but not 100% sure)
My Newly sourced (USED) Dials, ECU (With Eeprom 18048 error), transponder and key

Hardware Specs:

ECU - EDC 16U1
Dials - VDO
Immobilise - Immo3

How do I go about finding out if my newer of the 2 ECU's is bricked or just re-mapped?!
Which route will be the right way to go about getting my car up and running for the 1st time since ive owned it!

Many thanks in advance and I hope to stick around even after this issue is sorted as I'd like to learn bench testing/reading/flashing etc with my spare set up I will be left with and can practise on :)
