Any way to run a v8 with a v6 ECU?

Postby 986piper » Thu Jan 02, 2014 10:13 pm

Hello Everybody....newbie here.

I am currently preforming an engine swap in my Porsche Boxster (to an Audi 4.2l V8). I am starting to research my ECU options and could really use some advise from members of this community (thank goodness I found your site).

My question is this; Can I keep the current Motronic 7.2 ECU and add a "piggy back" or "intercept" style ignition controller to control the ignition / injectors, including the two additional cylinders from the Audi 4.2l? I am looking for a solution to keep the Motronic ECU in place as it controls a lot of the cars other functions (ie. stability control, cruise control, etc).

BTW, I also have the ECU from the Audi 4.2l, if there is someway to combine the two???

I would be very grateful for any guidance or opinions as I start down this somewhat unfamiliar road.

Wouldnt know about the ECU since i dont really know the Porsche engines really too good but i'd probably say no, at least not without heavy modifications. Why would you want to change a Flat-6 engine for a heavier and not so well balanced + higher engine? You will change the vehicle's weight distribution and low gravity engine that this vehicle has.

I dont really know if that is a common practice with Boxters so thats why im asking.. I know people put the Carrera engines in there.. First time hearing of someone putting a V8.

If you have a 4,2l ecu better use it with immobox or emulator and without 6cil ecu , other way to have more power and may be easyer is to put two turbines and piggy back ecu or new stand alone electronic
