Adding new maps to the ECU

Postby csaba.hegedus » Sun Jul 03, 2016 1:33 pm

Hey everyone! :)

Long time since I have been wondering if it is possible to add extra maps to an ECU.
For example, lets pick an old 90 hp 1.9 TDI, which I want to convert to have a VGT turbo. If I am well informed, the N75 map controls the veins in a VGT, but that map won't exist in the ECU of an older non-VGT turbo car.
I would like to know if it is possible to add a non-existing map and if yes, how to do it?

Thanks for help :)

Technically yes its do able but in practice you need to be some sort of coding wizard

I am not expert, but I would think that if you flash the whole new firmware into the ECU is the only way. Hacking the firmware for another car to work with yours is probably easier than hacking your own firmware to accept new maps.

I think you have to update ECU CPU Firmware to read this new maps.

Hi what engine is it?
The easy way is to get a file from a car with simila engine setup with a turbo compair it to the original if every thing is similar layout over write your ecu with this file then check everything in vagcom making sure the sensors are reading correctly before you think about starting the car.
You also need to make sure the injectors fuel pump Maf and map can cope with the extra air and fuel
Hope this helps
It's not as easy as it sounds so
PLEASE BE CAREFUL

Thanks everyone for the replies :)

I don't have the car currently, but it would be a really cheap one just for practicing chiptuning, so I wouldn't really mind blowing it up. I was curious if that can be done somehow.

Of course you can. You read flash, disassemble the flash based on processor type, find code references, find a free place in flash to add new code and new maps offset by DPP if processor type if infineon C167 for example. Then you need to recompile code from assembler and write down to ECU.
But this can`t be done by someone that wants to learn how to tune an engine, because you`ll end up locking the ecu or blowing the engine before you can learn something.
