2006 VW POLO 1.8T ME7.5 Remap- ECU Mapped- Will it crash?

Postby Gaz-M » Thu Oct 09, 2014 6:00 pm

Hi, first post here- Hello!

I have a 2006 VW Polo GTI 1.8Turbo with quite a lot of modifications. It currently has a Generic remap on it but i want to have it custom mapped as it has hybrid turbo etc.

The guy who is going to do the mapping thinks the ECU will crash and be scrap if he tries to draw the map out to edit as it has a generic remap in it which will be protected. He thinks i need a standard ECU so it will not crash and die.

Is this true or will it be okay? Is there a procedure to removing the map from the ME7.5 ECU (Part no 06A 906 032 TL )?

I read about some ECUs needing over 13v to read/ write to them?

I dont want to spend a lot of money on another ECU if i dont need one!

Any help gratefully accepted!

You can read this ECU in boot mode or you can desolder the flash chip and read it with eprom programmer. It will NOT crash.

Can it not be read and written via OBD? They normally are arent they?

Can you write to it in boot mode?

do not even try via obd, me7.5 is creapy because of its special specific - it fools you when you never expect.
this ecu has to be done in boot mode or desoldering chip, any other option is just waste of time and nerves.

Is boot mode via OBD but using boot mode on software?

Can they be done safely on a bench directly?

Ive had a look into it and now see that boot mode involves opening the ECU and earthing out the chip to a specific terminal.

Does this get done, and then the ECU can be programmed from the main ECU plug using something like this ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161116565603? ... EBIDX%3AIT ), or does it need programmed via the chip itself?

I dont understand because i know generic maps are loaded onto these via OBD?

What if i put one of these boot switches in, can it then be booted with ECU in car and then done in boot mode via OBD?

Sorry, im just trying to learn!
