1.4 TDI AMF Polo

Postby mark37 » Sat Apr 25, 2020 9:28 pm

Hello there,
My first try with mapping my ECU.
I did modify: driver wish, IQ by MAP limiter, smoke map, torque limiter, boost limit map, boost target map, SVBL, EGR off.
SOI, duration and N75 are stock.
My goal would be something around 105-110 hp, but I'm not sure how to set the TL without spoiling the clutch or how high I can go with boost without damaging the small turbo.

Did I overdo or am I too conservative?
Thank you very much!

i had a look

dont flatline your boost, there is a reason why it comes down at high rpm, look at turbo mpas, and on turbo map for your turbo you can do calculation, and get an answer on what is safe to boost your turbo

im also not sure if you anderstand how boost limiter works? seeing that you tuned halve of the map.
was not necasary to adjust DW, unless you wanted more response from throttle
why just add 15% on smoke limiter? do you know how that map works?
Smoke by MAP makes no sense, and other smoke maps that werent touched
your duration maps arent calibrated for the fuel you are requesting in other maps like smoke.
then TQ map is lower than the values of your SL maps, so basicaly you will be limited by TQ.

conclusion. you need to learn and understand the maps more. it doesnt look like you realy understand how they work and how to calculate new calibration. just adding % has no point

Thank you!
Actually I read all I found but cannot understand how and what smoke limit map is being used.
In EDCSuite i have "smoke limiter" which has MAF values on the X axis, then "IQ by MAF" which sounds the same to me but is not in use, then "IQ by MAP" which should be in use (switch is currently at 257).
Which one is the actual smoke limiter here? Should I ignore the "smoke limiter" map and just set the "IQ by MAP"?

I did some calculation and for a max boost pressure of 2200mbar (which seems to be reasonable for my little turbo) I should have in theory 1042mg of air, which is more likely to be 937mg due to losses, and that could allow me to inject 55mg max.

I understood that the EDC15 would look first at the driver wish (which I could leave untouched as it already reaches 55mg), then at the smoke map (I don't know which one of the 3 I found), and then at the torque lmiter. After that it decides to inject the lowest IQ allowed by the three maps and looks at the SOI and duration maps to decide when to start injecting and how long.
Boost target map controls the turbo to reach the right pressure for each IQ, but I don't understand when it's looked at.. after IQ, duration and SOI is decided how can it prepare the right boost before the fuel is injected?

I think I got right the SVBL which triggers the blimp mode, the boost limit map which limits the boost for low atmospheric air pressure and the N75 map which controls the wastegate behaviour in order to reach a requested boost.

SOI and duration maps are already allowing 55mg to be injected, why should I tweak them?
I tried to keep the same logic as the original map, with the smoke map lower than the driver wish and the torque map lower than the smoke map, is it the right way to do it?

Thanks!

Anybody knows what's my actual smoke limiter?

I tried searching for that in the forum (https://www.ecuedit.com/edc15-maf-map-smoke-limiter-t7483) but still cannot figure out what the "extra" smoke limiter does.

What shoud I edit?
Thanks!

I tried again, calculating AFR for both limiters ("smoke limiter" and "IQ by MAP") and incrementing them.
Didn't touch boost this time since 2100mbar should be enough for 55mg, and adjusted axis in all maps to allow that quantity to be injected.
Block 2 is the new, Block 5 is the original map.
What should I do better?

Thanks!

Have to say that despite reading around on this Im also still wondering what the smoke limiter maps do when the ecu is switched to Iq by MAP.

You calculate AFR on smoke by MAP and by MAF, its almost same calculation

Yes indeed I did it twice, but I don't think the ECU will use both maps. I was wondering if anybody knows how it works..
I think I should do it again for the boost map (boost vs RPM and IQ), even if it sounds like a dog chasing its own tail.

In the smoke map I choose the IQ for any amount of air available, in the boost target map I have to choose the amount of air for any IQ..
How should I edit that one?

At the end I figured out the only smoke limiter used is "IQ by MAP", the others are ignored.
