ds708 good choice, when you need to quickly erase faults. Works quickly and does not need a computer.Updates only for one year, then need to buy updates.
Cheap solution is to buy used kts 520 with ubox2 and bosch works better than ds708.

For special functions adaptations always tool and software that is dedicated from dealer.
Ista BMW , Das Xentry MB, Diagbox peugeot,so on.. a long story

A good question can be for each brand.

I think either Autocom / Delphi tool is quite sufficient. My Autocom is always the first tool out the bag. I purchased many individual dealer tools like lexia, opcom, ids, and Clip before actually getting Autocom I very rarely need to go for another tool after Autocom since it has dealer functions anyway

DS708 is great allround tool that can get surprisingly deep.
verry nice is the all system scan, where all modulles gets scaned automaticly also erase.
Launch is good too, but have to go in every module one by one..
Autocom not bad but often can not get deep in.
Vcds is for VAG all the way. ;)

Autel is a trust brand and DS708 does everything the genesys and the high end snap-on scanner do for less then a quarter of the price.
price today is down to affordable $900 around http://www.obd365.com/wholesale/autel-m ... -1213.html

What brand of cars are you working on. Gscan works well on Asian vehicles. To get the best result achieved you need jfactory tools, but you pay a price to play. Once you have used factory tools, tinker toys will be thrown to the side.
