I think it's too expensive

The problem is, when you need a service from someone, you don't really get any say, or right to hold judgement over the value of his/her time.

Additionally, I don't know the OP's level of skill, but you only need a smidgen of common sense to blow most ebay tuners out of the water. This is my own, and the opinion of many others who have seen lots of tuners come and go, selling their wares at any price point people will buy at. If these sellers own level of self respect means they charge £20 for what is a very advanced and technical job, then there should be alarm bells. But it's your call.

Tuning isn't expensive, but it costs a lot of money. I've spent more than I'd like to on tuning, but the alternative is not to tune.

The only time i've seen chiptuning done cheaply is when someone or someone elses work is getting ripped off, or that someone is being taken advantage of.

I know people who would want four or five times the prices listed here for a map pack. These people put hours in, give quality and deserve the money. Someone with adequate brains for tuning will still turn a nice profit even then from buying the info. And yes it is to some degree about the profit, because tuning is a business oriented activity. Nothing stopping someone buying a map pack to tune their own car, but they'l have to pay like everyone else does, and they won't make much in terms of a return from it.

Just how it is. My message here really is he's not charging a lot, and comparing the prices with ebay offering is more of an insult, given the crap that ebay tends to spout as far as tuning wares go.

i agree with you, i get lots of people sending me inbox messages to lower my price, but i tell them no. i spend a really big amount of time creating map packs and they do not appreciate all the effort and time that goes into making proper stuff, they tell me but the map packs on ebay is so cheap, so i told them they must feel free to go and buy cheap crap on ebay.

i would say that more than 90% of the users here have a maximum of 10 posts and want free stuff.

and about the map packs or files you can buy on ebay, even beginners in the forum can make better files.
i got a tuned files collection yesterday from a mate, he bought it on ebay. i looked at some maps (with my beginning knowledge) and the files are really crap. but most of people in poor countries are using such files, and the ebay seller can earn a lot of money.

who thinks that ebay is good quality, so please buy on ebay and dont ask in forums.

The biggest problem is everyone wants something for nothing. All of these people don't know how to do it so instead of learning they just want everything handed to them. It's 1 thing to help someone out but to do there work for them will never truly help.

I am working with car electronics since a few years. I also made tuning on cars with bought files. Price range 100-250 Euro / file from good tuner. Customers are happy about hp gain. I am working with EVC BDM100, Ktag and Kessv2 (NOT chinese craps). I have never got problems. :-)

Now, before 2-3 month, i decided me to learn to make my own files in the future. I don´t want to work with cracked software, i bought winols from evc directly (beginners version). I have time, i can help my customers with bought files furthermore and i think, i need 1,2 or 3 years to make my own good files finally. At the moment, i am just helping some friends with VW hotstart fixes, VW EDC15 EGR off, find DPF switches and other "easy" beginners stuff. I am working every day with winols and i am learning every day better ways to handle with winols, to find hysteresis, maps and to compare files. It is really not easy, but if you find new solutions for you, it makes a lot of fun. I have schoolbooks to write down my experiences. I document everything with my pen and schoolbooks.. :-)

It´s not easy to learn and it is not easy to find people, they want to help you like a teacher. I found somebody, he gives me lessons via teamviewer and phone. I have to make homework and he doublecheck my files. My other learn method is comparing. I bought a lot of files from tuner and compare them to the original files. A lot of time, a lot of money...

Of course, i downloaded mappacks for free and tried to use them... they are a piece of sh.t...
Of course, i bought ebay CD with 20000 files and it´s easy to see for beginners , files are craps...

Somebody in this thread said, 1 or 2 hours of reading and you are ready to make your own mappacks. That´s not right! Ok, you find a lot of map adresses in this forum but for example you have two cars in your workshop. Same engine, same ecu hardware, but other SW, so maps are on different adresses. Always not easy.

There are two ways for mappacks.
1. Buy mappacks or supermappacks from professional tuners matched to the SW number. Then you have to pay money !! It is not easy to make mappacks and it needs time. 30 Euro for mappack IS NOT EXPENSIVE. It is a very very very nice price for a proper mappack !!!!!
2. Make your own mappacks.

You will never be a professional tuner without investing a lot of money and a looooooooooooooooooooooooooot of time !!!!!!

If you have´nt time, buy files from tuner. Do not try to make your own files !! The right choice for you is to buy files from tuner mate !

Then. You will NEVER get a professional file for 30-40 Euro :D :D :D :D !
These people with these files are cheaters. You will get what you payed for !

Some people think: Buy a (cloned) flasher tool for 20-30 Euro on ebay, buy files for 30 Euro/pc, earn 450 Euro from customer and make the BIG MONEY...

I would love some assistance making mappacks for Caterpillar. If anyone has any interest please let me know. I have many files in .bin format etc and have genuine winols but I am finding it extremely difficult to make my own. I will gladly pay you for your time and not haggle over the price.

Thanks

I agree with you totally, helping someone is not a big deal but if that same person wants more and more free stuff then i charge them, i don't see how they should keep on milking.
