Max boost on 1.9 TDI PD115

Postby n0ble » Mon Jan 13, 2014 4:22 pm

Hi all,

What is the max boost that tends to be run on stage 1 cars with this engine.

Is say 1.5 too much?

Thanks

Hello,
You can see at turbo producer label with max possible&safe pressures.
1.5 is too much for me but it depends of milleage :P
Many people make increase about 6-8% of max boost value..

it depends on RPM, at 4000 I wouldnt go over 2.25mBar, it also depends on atmosferic conditions

2250mbar id say. All depends on turbo, wear etc. id say 8% max from standard thereabouts

Garrett GTA17V on 2.2 TDCi 175 is running over 1.7 bar with stock setup...

I have GT1756, running 1.3 bar stock. I'm not running it much more at the moment, but am thinking of replacing a MAP with 3-bar (stock is 2.5 bar) and turning it up just a little bit...

1.5 bar is definetely too much mate....
you gonna blow off the turbine in few km
boost pressure doesn't produce power ;)
150mbar increase is way enough...
good luck

Questions like these are hard to answer and bring a lot of bullsh*t to the table...
its pretty much all hear say and guesses.

not all GT17xxV are created equal for one...
It depends on a lot of factors, what version and construction, age, how its mapped, etc...

its not high boost that kills it, rather high egt, high emp, choke, surge, overspeed, spikes and bad maintenance...

on my brothers passat 1.9PD130 (awx) we've been running 1.65bar boost for moths now and still no adverse effects noticeable.
that is a gt1749va btw, the gt1749vb has a bigger shaft and will manage with a bit more abuse.

my small td025 on my 1.6hdi has been spiking +1.5bar for many years and runs 1.4bar stable, tho everyone said not to go over 1.25bar or it would explode...

unless you are willing to do just that, stick to what you think is safe.
I've blown up a gt1544v before, running just over 1.65bar, testing the limits...

Darkvador, you are right, boost in itself will not produce power, the increase in mass airflow will ;)
