Hello

Postby Alex.T » Sat May 26, 2012 5:05 pm

Hi everyone
I have a Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi 80kW 110hp (Jan 2003) and I'm learning how mapping works and how it is used to control the engine. I've been reading this forum for the past two weeks and learned A LOT!
So I finally joined this community hoping to keep learning and sharing what I know :D

It all happened last year when a friend of mine remapped my 406. I was happy with that but unfortunately I was too busy/happy to feel the torque and power achieved by the remap when accelerating and not noticing the smoke behind the car.
It was something like this:
OldBusSmoke.jpg

Above 4000 rpm it was worse

After searching the great internet I quickly found out that my engine was having too much to drink but not enough oxygen.
So I talked to my friend and he told me he would lower the injection but he was very very busy (working hard + marriage problems).
After a few months... look at the image again...
Ok, I've seen how he modified some values in some tables that then turned into 2D and 3D graphs showing original and modified values.
My brilliant plan:
1. Buy ELM327 and Galletto
2. Test drive with ELM327 and a camera pointed at the exhaust while recording all this on my laptop
3. Write down at which revs the smoke was too much (and how much)
4. Lower maps' values closer to original ones at revs logged at step 3
5. Getting rid of the smoke while keeping the power gained by the remap.

Of course it was a disaster
First off, the ELM 327 wouldn't connect because my car is not OBDII compliant. (BUS INIT ERROR)
Then I decided to lower map values based on my intuition.
Galletto worked like a charm. Let's see those maps now.... well.. HOW?
I then found out that you need a DAMOS.. impossible to find.
At some point I downloaded ECM2001 and found a Driver (DAMOS equivalent) for my ECU.
It was showing me 4 injection maps and 1 turbo map. Looked right and simple. Of course this ain't that simple..
Editing those 5 maps didn't work how I wanted...
So I started working in WinOLS finding maps by myself, searching the internet for info and trying to understand how maps and car (engine, turbo .... ) worked toghether.
At this point we're in the PRESENT! (Saturday 26th May 2012)
4 weeks have passed.. It's time to join the forum that I followed and liked a lot, so here I am! :D

Future plans:
- Keep learning about maps & ec15c2 system
- Buy a diag tool for PP2000 (short on money right now)
- Testing small map changes to feel and understand what difference makes
You do not have permissions to view the files yet. You have to be registered and you have to make at least 3 quality / unique posts.

Hi fellow italian!
Brilliant car and engine, I have a 406 2.2HDi, as does the "boss", ecuedit.
PP2000 is relatively cheap at around 70€ from Hong Kong, I can tell you the site via PM if you please.

The 2.0 can handle 130-140bhp, it's a very good engine. Any questions, just ask!

Welcome Alex.

You can start investigating this link: edc15c2-3d-graphs-units-hw-0281010877-sw-1037353776-t54

I suppose it will be helpful. We are happy to have new contributors and we are here to help as much as we can.

Thanks
I'm already focusing on those graphs, but as I wrote in that thread, pics are not clear. Some axes are unreadable. I think it's because JPG compression. You should use PNG or just zip all the files. You could also specify what Z-axis is since it's not in the graph

Hi, pictures are for preview. I will prepare video clip for all maps since i have problems with time lately - it will be quicker.
The library that resizes picture is GD library on the server which resizes pictures to desired size to suit the avarage screen size an it adds the Ecuedit watermark. When GD resizes images it brakes the quality at some strange ratios. We are priparing ImageMagick conversion - that wil be much better.

Hello there!
Actually I'm not 100% Italian because I was born in Romania and lived there till the age of 12. Since then I finished all my studies here (medie, superiori + attuale università). But don't worry, I integrated at the point people don't notice that I'm not actually Italian :D

Feel free to PM me anytime you want and thanks for the help!
I'll sure be asking some questions, but not here. I'll post in the related Topic ;)

A video would be great! Just make sure to record it at a decent resolution. I have some spare time, so maybe I can get individual graph and info pics out of the video and post them in a thread :)
I also couldn't integrate the image in the fist post with the IMG tag. It said: can't determine size of the image!

I have absolutely no problem with non-EU immigrants, unlike most italians, sadly!

I'm EU ;)
Sadly you can see bad immigrants on the news, which makes it easy to hate all immigrants because good ones don't make news at all. Bad people are everywhere, but they're worse when they are in other countries because they can steal and kill and the go back to their original country leaving behind bad reputation and shame...
