Golf 5 EDC16 - EGR fault code

Postby lux.4 » Tue Oct 17, 2017 12:34 pm

Hi all,

Today, friend of mine will come to my place to close/switch off EGR because there is an EGR fault code in his Golf 5 1.9 TDI.

I will connect the car to VCDS and try to erase fault code, and then close EGR by hysteresis... I assume that this wont work, and i'll need to do EGR switch so we can just unplug EGR connector...

So main question is how can I find EGR switch in hexdump, how to recognize it, and of course which value to enter for switching it off?? Also, how to erase DTC so it wont appeare on dash when we disconnect EGR?

I found posts from ECUEDIT where he says that he resolves problems like that with EGR switch, but is it enough just to unplug EGR connector and leave it like that?

I'll appreciate any other suggestion for solving this problem!

I will, when he comes and i read it :)

But before that, is there any way to recognize switch?

Tnx

It's all done, and it's working!

VCDS showed me EGR fault code 16785 ( P0401 ), and duty cycle of 14.7% on idle ( i think normal should be around 40% at idle), so i erased fault code, and proceed to reading ECU... Open file in winols and close EGR by hysteresis, and flash file back to ECU... Start engine and there was no fault code "emission workshop" and check engine light on dashboard anymore.

Then i logged it with VCDS one more time, and everything was good, duty cycle was 96.4% at idle as it should be with closed EGR valve!

Hope this will help somenone with same problem
